Class Descriptions
Class: Frindle Book Club
Description: Join us as we read and discuss the beloved novel Frindle by Andrew Clements! Together, we’ll follow Nick Allen’s creative adventure as one simple idea turns into something much bigger than he ever imagined. Through guided discussions, fun activities, and critical thinking, students will explore the story’s themes, characters, vocabulary, and the power of words. No need to purchase the book—it will be provided on the first day of class. Come ready to read, share your thoughts, and discover why Frindle has become a favorite for so many readers!
Class: Art Fundamentals
Description: This mixed-media class will center around fun projects completed in class together with a new theme each week. We will explore several artistic mediums over the course of the term, and each session will begin with a short lesson on artistic fundamentals such as shape, color, pattern, dimension, technique, and referencing. Teachings are built on maintaining a safe environment to be creative, learn new skills, and improve upon foundations. Since art is a fun and liberating form of expression, students will not be required to execute tasks perfectly, but they will be expected to participate and follow instructions. There will be lots of room for creative decisions to make projects unique to the artist, allowing students to experiment and find their creative voices. Our focus will also be on looking at the many different kinds of art and building basic understandings that transfer to any art form. We will also acknowledge that even successful artists can be incredibly skilled in a single craft and still struggle with others - we all start somewhere, and artistic talent is available to all simply through learning fundamentals and techniques, and determined practice.
Class: Yoga*
Description: In yoga class students will explore playful movement, storytelling, and music with basic stretches, balance poses, and breathing exercises. Journaling, aromatherapy, crafts & games will be introduced as well. *Yoga will not be meeting the first and third week, and will use the two make-up dates, so be sure to mark your calendars appropriately!*
Class: Passport Around the World
Description: Students will explore famous landmarks, discover interesting animals, learn a few words from each country’s language, create unique souvenirs, and earn a passport stamp for every destination they visit. Along the way, they’ll build an appreciation for different cultures while developing creativity, curiosity, and friendships in a fun, interactive environment.
Class: Principles of Art
Description: This mixed-media class will deepen students' understanding of the core principles of art along with the theories and techniques that shape them. Each week will focus on a different aspect of artistic development, including practice assignments to understand new principles and larger projects to implement skills. We will discuss shape and form, composition and perspective, values and lighting, shading and dimension, texture and contrast, and color theory. Concepts will be practiced using several artistic mediums. Students will have plenty of freedom to practice various techniques and then choose which ones to implement for their main art works. This class is geared towards students who want to grow in technique and ability, and who have a desire to learn in a multi-faceted approach. Even if there is a preferred art style or medium, students will be expected to branch out, try new things, and apply techniques to broaden their creative understandings. Art is all about learning and growing, not striving for perfection.
Class: Elementary Astronomy
Description: In this course, students will learn about the components of our solar system, such as the planets, stars, the moon, and more. We will explore these topics through hands-on activities and games. The materials fee covers supplies for lab activities. Please bring scissors, a glue stick, and a pen/pencil.
Class: Creative Writing
Description: In this class, students will create short stories from a variety of prompts and activities. All supplies will be provided by the teacher.
Class: Astronomy

Class: Foundations of Government
Description: Students will study different forms of government, philosophy, rule of law, etc.
Class: Singing Time
Description: We will be singing lots of fun songs and working on skills such as basic rhythm and pitch matching. We will play games and build confidence as we learn together. No prior experience necessary!
