Q:

What is Abide in Christ Homeschool Collaborative?

A:

Abide in Christ Support Group is a Christ-centered homeschool support group ministering to families in Northwestern New Jersey. We are here to encourage and sharpen one another as we navigate our individual homeschooling journeys together. We offer family events, field trips, holiday parties, mission projects, and many other opportunities for fellowship and to celebrate important milestones.

Abide in Christ Co-op Group is an academically minded extension of the support group, where families have the opportunity for their children to meet weekly in a classroom-like setting. Our mission is to support parents in training and educating their children by providing classes that supplement and enrich their education.

This co-op is a collaborative effort in which families share their resources, talents, and skills to enhance each student’s intellectual and social experience. The success of the co-op depends upon the full participation of each member, as it is entirely parent-led.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although we offer classes for Pre-Kindergarten, membership in AiC Co-op is only available for families that have at least one school age child (age 5 by October 31st) participating in classes.

Q:

What is the difference between the AiC Support Group and the AiC Co-op Group?

A:

The main difference between the AiC Support Group and the AiC Co-op Group is that the co-op group meets weekly in a class-like environment. AiC Co-op and AiC Support Group members will have the opportunity to engage and fellowship at events such as field trips, mission projects, family events and much more!

(For full descriptions of each group, please see the full description in the above FAQ.)

Q:

Is Abide in Christ a drop-off co-op?

A:

No. Families are expected to participate on-site. Abide is parent-led, and our success is contingent upon parents being willing to teach and/or co-teach classes.

Q:

What grades do you serve at AiC Co-op?

A:

We offer classes for Pre-Kindergarten* through High School.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Although we offer classes for Pre-Kindergarten, membership in AiC Co-op is only available for families that have at least one school age child (age 5 by October 31st) participating in classes.

Q:

What should I do if my OLDEST child is NOT 5 years old by October 31st?

A:

As membership to Abide in Christ Co-op is only available to families who have at least one school age child (age 5 by October 31st), we recommend joining Abide Support Group and begin building relationships within our homeschool community.

Q:

Do I have to stay for all class periods?

A:

No, you only need to stay and participate while your child is in class. We encourage you to sign up for at least 2 hours of classes so you can get the most benefit from our community, and so we have more opportunity to get to know you as well. If you are not attending 1st hour, please plan to arrive about 5 minutes prior to the beginning of your first class period. It is important for you to be on time for your assigned duty, but also for your children to arrive on time so they are not disruptive to their classes.

Q:

What do I do with my child that is under 3 years old while my older children are in AiC Co-op classes?

A:

We have a toddler and infant nursery available all day for the children. When you register your older children for a class period, you must also register your toddler or infant for the nursery during that class period. All children must be signed up for a class or nursery, so we know where they are each hour you are attending co-op. If you have a child in the nursery, you will most likely be assigned to help there for at least one class period, but you can request to be with them more often if you prefer.

Q:

How am I expected to help if I take part in the AiC Co-op?

A:

Since this is a true co-op and is meant to be a pooling of talents, we need everyone's help. When you register for classes, you will be asked to serve in some way. For example, if you do not feel led to teach, you will most likely be assigned as a teacher's helper, which would involve helping the teacher keep order, taking young children to the restrooms, helping with crafts, etc. Some other roles you may be assigned would be a hall monitor, study hall monitor, nursery worker, info table, set up or clean up crew.

Q:

Do I have to be present the whole time my children are at AiC Co-op?

A:

Yes. In order for your child to participate, you must be present and helping the entire time your child is at co-op. You may not drop your child off or leave in the care of another parent who is already at the co-op except for admin approved extenuating circumstances. If you cannot be present for some reason, you may substitute someone in your place who will fulfill your responsibilities. You can ask a friend, grandparent, or adult sibling (over 18) to cover for you. This person will take your place and follow your normal responsibility schedule for the day.

Q:

What should I do if we have to be absent from AiC Co-op?

A:

If you can't make it to co-op, you need to fill out the absentee form online before 8 am the day of co-op, or text the Absentee Admin. If you already have a scheduled vacation or other known absence, please fill out the absentee form as soon as you confirm your dates. We understand sickness and other unexpected events occur at the last minute, but please fill out the form or text as soon as you know you will be out. Every person is important, and we need time to find replacement helpers if you will be missing, so please give us as much notice as possible.
