Add to Your Calendar: 11/16/2026 13:00 11/16/2026 15:00 America/New_York PUBLIC Life Skills- Hunting Safety & Wildlife Tracking

Location: Big Walnut Conservation Club and run by conservation club members

This class will introduce the kids to the fundamentals of hunting safety, responsible firearm handling principles, and wildlife identification through hands-on learning and outdoor exploration.

We will begin in the clubhouse or pavilion with an introduction to hunting safety. The kids will learn the importance of following directions, being aware of their surroundings, identifying their target, and always knowing what is beyond it. They will also get to see hunting-related props and equipment to help them understand the tools and skills used by responsible hunters.

Next, we will head out onto the trails for a simulated hunting experience. Using wooden training shotguns or rifles, the kids will take turns practicing safe hunting behaviors as they search for animal pictures or decoys along the trail. Each student will have an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned, while the other kids participate by helping identify safety considerations and wildlife.

Throughout the class, we will emphasize patience, responsibility, respect for wildlife, teamwork, and being good stewards of God’s creation.

Our goal: For every kid to leave with a better understanding of hunting safety, increased awareness of Ohio wildlife, and an appreciation for the responsibility that comes with spending time outdoors.
