Welcome to Primitive Traps! In this class, we will be taking a closer look at traps and tools that people have used for thousands of years to catch game for sustenance and raw materials to meet their daily needs. Whether it was pelts for clothing and accessories, meat for food, bones for tools, or teeth and claws for jewelry, taking game was an integral part of day to day life for a very long time. We will study the difference between two of the most common types of traps, the Snare and the Deadfall, and discuss how they operate. Then, we will take an up close look at a handful of different snare and deadfall traps to see how they are set up and how they work. There may even be a cool bonus trap thrown in! After we see them in action, we will want to learn how the trigger systems and other pieces are made, so we will pick our favorite traps and get to enjoy an interactive presentation of how they are carved and created in real time. Lastly, students will have the opportunity to try setting some of the traps for themselves to feel how it all comes together for themselves. Our class will be hands-on, interactive, and absolutely something to remember! Caleb strives for a learning opportunity that puts the tools and the topics into the student's hands as much as possible and brings them into the lesson instead of having them act as an outside observer. He believes that you learn the best, and retain the most when you're relaxed and having fun so he's going to do everything he can to make sure you're having fun while you're learning all about these wonderful ancient tools!
