* (1 required) | NEWCHAA Player Code of Conduct
As a NEWCHAA athlete I agree to:
- Unite with other players/athletes, coaches, parents, and the NEWCHAA board, in support of NEWCHAA’s Mission Statement and Policies as we foster a Christ centered athletic environment by applying the truths of Scripture to athletic careers, and as Scripture does, apply the lessons learned from athletics as we seek to imitate Jesus:
a. “Promote Excellence in a Competitive Sports Setting”
Competing to win. (1Cor 9:24), Self control in all things (1Cor 9:25), Purpose, Focus, & Intentionality (1Cor 9:26) Forgetting what’s behind us and intensely focusing, reaching, pressing, to obtain the prize (Pil 3:13,14), Working with all of our heart for the Lord (Col 3:23,24), All for God’s Glory (1Cor 10:31)...
b. “Build Individual Character and Discipline”
Competing within the rules (2Tim 2:5) The right thinking (Phil 4:8), As valuable as winning in sports can be, spiritual wins last forever. (1 Cor 9:25), Glorify God by being a light to others (Mat 5:16)...
c. “Encourage Team Sportsmanship”
Character traits of compassion, kindness, humility, patience, forgiveness... (Phil 1:9-11), (Col 3:12-14), Sharpening each other (Prov 27:17), Value others above yourself (Phil 2:3,4), Unity (Rom 12:4,5)...
d. “Develop Athletic Skills”
Discipline your body. We are to rule our bodies... as our body is our servant. (1 Cor 9:27)(1Tim 4:7,8), Rewards for the skilled (Prov 22:29), Physical (1Tim 4:8), Endurance (Heb 12:1), God works through our gifts (1Cor 12:4-6)...
- Trust the coach to lead and instruct the team. Playing time is not guaranteed, is not equal, and must be earned. Among many other considerations, the amount of playing time a player receives is heavily influenced by their effort, attitude, and performance both in practice and during games. It is ultimately the Head Coach's responsibility to determine which players will participate, when, and for how long, taking various factors into consideration. We encourage players to respectfully discuss any concerns about their role, performance, or playing time with their Head Coach. I will support my team when I am not in the game.
- Accept the calls of the officials graciously.
- Play the game with good sportsmanship and cheer in the same manner.
- Play for the benefit of the team and not for self-glorification.
- Be a humble winner and a gracious loser.
- Be courteous and friendly to all opponents.
- Be respectful of all equipment and facilities.
- Attend all practices, games, tournaments, and team events – or, with parental approval, give advance notice to the coach of any conflict. I will make my best effort to attend any fundraisers held.
- Work hard in practice, at home, and at sports camps/clinics (when possible) to improve my mental and my physical skills, so that I can reach my goals as a player and to help my team reach its goals.
- Overcome the urge to complain, think negatively, act selfishly, or engage in any other behavior that disrupts team chemistry. I will show kindness and respect to my coach and teammates and do what is in their best interest.
- Operate with a high level of gratitude and respect for what has been provided to me in this program.
- Be accountable for all team requirements (e.g. getting to practice on time and ready to start, completing tasks on time, being dependable, working hard, etc)
If I answer "No" I understand my participation may be limited and a member of the board will contact me for clarification.
