About the Director

John Varwig is the choir director for SCCHE’s Concert, Chamber and Cantando Choirs. John received his Bachelor degree in Music Education from Wheaton College and his Masters of Music with an emphasis in choral conducting from Webster University. He most recently taught the choir classes and music theory at Francis Howell Central High School. His choirs consistently received high ratings and a number of his students continued on to major in music degrees in college.

Since retiring in 2011, John had served as the choir direct at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church. He also conducted the semi-professional choir Bella Voce of St. Louis for four years.

One of John's consistent goals for all members of his choirs is that not only do we strive to reach our full potential, but also to stretch ourselves to see what we are truly capable of. As a Christian, John seeks to instill in each member a true desire to worship the Lord through music and to grow in His ways.
