Choir

Saint Charles Christian Home Educators'
Cantando and Concert Choirs

John Varwig is the choir director for SCCHE’s Concert, Chamber and Cantando Choirs. John received his Bachelor degree in Music Education from Wheaton College and his Masters of Music with an emphasis in choral conducting from Webster University. He most recently taught the choir classes and music theory at Francis Howell Central High School. His choirs consistently received high ratings and a number of his students continued on to major in music degrees in college.

After retiring in 2011, John was hired and continues to direct the choir at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church. He also conducted the semi-professional choir Bella Voce of St. Louis for four years. One of John's consistent goals for all members of his choirs is that not only do we strive to reach our full potential, but also to stretch ourselves to see what we are truly capable of.

As a Christian, John seeks to instill in each member a true desire to worship the Lord through music and to grow in His ways.

What Choir Enrollment Means

  1. When you enroll a child in Cantando or Concert Choir, both you and the student are committing to the goals, rules, and work ethic of the SCCHE choirs and to their parent organization.
  2. Parents should not enroll students if they or their children are unwilling to commit to a full year of participation in choir and/or are unwilling or unable to attend performances.
  3. Choir enrollment assumes that parents will make every effort to have their children at all choir rehearsals and performances barring illness, family emergency, or trips/appointments that cannot be rescheduled. If your child will be absent or arriving late to a choir rehearsal, you must contact Debbie Winfield IN WRITING via email or text IN ADVANCE or it will be considered an unexcused absence or unexcused tardy arrival. TWO unexcused absences or THREE unexcused tardy arrivals will result in being dismissed from the choir program for the duration of the school year.
  4. Choir members should strive for excellence and holy behavior as ambassadors for Christ as well as for the homeschool community.
