We want to WELCOME homeschooling or potential homeschool families to our HEARTS support group page! Our goal is to develop relationships with each other and to provide a Christian environment for homeschooling families! We are very EXCITED about this opportunity that God has given us to SERVE one another!!

Our Mission: HEARTS, a Christian homeschool support group, has been established to foster relationships between like-minded families. We encourage and minister to one another as well as provide social and educational activities that enrich our lives. We ultimately aim to reach the hearts of our children for Christ.

Our Inspiration: Psalm 127:3-4 "Children are a heritage from the Lord,
offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth."

Deuteronomy 11:18-19 "Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up."

Malachi 4:6A "He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents"

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him,and he will make your paths straight."

Homeschooling In MS

Where to Begin?
Mississippi Home Educators Association (MHEA) seeks to enable, equip, and encourage families committed to teaching their children at home. MHEA accomplishes this goal through its annual conferences and through its affiliated local support groups.

Homeschooling FAQS

Can anyone homeschool in Mississippi?

Yes. Any parent is permitted by law to teach his or her own children in a home instruction program. The state has a minimal amount of regulation that families must follow to legally home school. A legitimate home instruction program is defined as one that is not “operated for the purpose of avoiding or circumventing the compulsory attendance law.

What kind of paperwork does Mississippi require?

By September 15 of each year, parents are required to submit a certificate of enrollment for each child age 6-17 by September 1. (If you have children older or younger, you are not required to submit a certificate for them.) The certificate card – available from your city or county school attendance officer – should include names, address, and telephone number of parents and children, dates of birth of children, and a “simple description of the type of education the children are receiving.” You are not required by law to give your child’s Social Security number. The card must be returned to the school attendance officer.

In the event the child has been enrolled in a public school he must file a Certificate of Enrollment with the local attendance within 15 calendar days after the first day of the school year for the school district where the child resides. If the decision to homeschool the child is made during the school year, they may at that time enroll the child in a legitimate home instruction program and send the certificate of enrollment to the school attendance officer, even though they missed the September deadline.Parents, guardians, or custodians of a child who are found in violation of this law are given 10 days after receiving a written notice to comply with the law.
