Our Philosophy
At Free Range, we don't adhere to a rigid curriculum. Instead, we believe in supplementing home education with diverse, engaging experiences that cater to both the academic and social development of our children. Our classes are a blend of structured learning and creative exploration, ensuring that every child finds something that sparks their interest and fosters growth.
Mission Statement
The Free Range Learning Cooperative, Inc. (FRLC) is a Board-run, non-profit organization that provides supplemental secular education to homeschooling families in the Northeast Florida/South Georgia area. The Free Range Learning Cooperative is a strong, supportive, educational community. We live outside the box, but inside a thriving educational community and offer a brilliant collection of creative and progressive educational classes which include something for everyone: from tots to teens, and free-spirited unschoolers to enthusiastic classical homeschoolers. Our cooperative thrives as a collaborative volunteer effort with all participants of different backgrounds and beliefs contributing to its development and success! Participants are encouraged to donate their time, talents, skills, and expertise.
Vision Statement
At FRLC, our unifying purpose is to inspire and enrich the homeschool journey of the families in our community.
We cultivate the diverse identities of our families. We are committed to creating and nurturing an inclusive and accepting homeschool community where every student and family, regardless of nation of origin, race, immigration status, religious affiliation (all faith/ non-faith belief systems), disability status, or LGBTQIA+ identity, can belong. We support our families through validating actions, language, service and accommodations. Each family’s volunteer contributions are essential to build and grow our community.
We expect all members of FRLC to respect and affirm the full diversity of our community, including race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ability. FRLC is an inclusive space that does not tolerate racism, homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, or discrimination in any form. To ensure a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all participating families, affirming language is required from all members, including the consistent use of a person’s stated name and pronouns.
We support positive affirmation of all. We do not tolerate language or actions that exclude or diminish equal opportunities for our participating families. We know mistakes might be made unintentionally, and we will purposefully embrace opportunities for growth.
Hands-On Learning
Every class at Free Range is designed to be hands-on, encouraging active participation and experiential learning. While some classes focus on academic subjects, others emphasize free play and social interaction. This balance ensures a holistic approach to education, nurturing both the mind and the spirit.
Diverse Offerings
Class topics vary each semester, reflecting the dynamic interests of our community and the unique expertise of our parent-teachers. To truly understand the breadth and depth of our offerings, we invite you to browse through our past yearbooks, which showcase the incredible variety of classes we've provided.
Age-Based Grouping
Our classes are organized by age group rather than grade level, fostering an inclusive and flexible learning environment. Some classes may include a single age group, while others span two age groups, ensuring that children can learn alongside their peers in a way that suits their developmental stage. Multiple classes are available for each age group during every session, providing plenty of options to choose from.
Community First
Joining Free Range is about more than just the classes. It’s about becoming part of a thriving homeschool community where families come together to support and inspire one another. Our cooperative model means that every member plays a vital role in creating an enriching environment for our children.
