Q:

What are the requirements to Homeschool in Virginia?

A:

The State of Virginia is a very homeschool friendly state.  The only requirements for homeschoolers is to file your Notice of Intent to homeschool and show "proof of advancement" which is usually in the form of a Standardized test.  There are other ways to provide this proof including a providing a portfoilio, or getting an individual evaluation.  Please see the HSLDA website for detailed requirements.

Q:

I'm moving to the area, what opportunities are there for homeschoolers?

A:

Virginia is a wonderful place to homeschool.  There are many incredible experiences available for exploration. In addition to the museums, most of the historical sites host a "Homeschool Day" at a reduced cost.  There is a large population of homeschoolers, which provide many opportunities for classes, sports, and art.  Becoming a member of a group, like BHE, helps keep track of all the great opportunities out there.
