Community
The South Bay is a region of the southwest peninsula of Los Angeles County, California. The South Bay is one of the most culturally, economically, and ethnically diverse areas in the United States, with a largely even distribution of the population across European, Asian/Pacific Islander, African, and Latino ancestry. The South Bay community includes 16 distinct communities. These communities boast 23 high schools, 20 middle schools, and 66 elementary schools utilizing a K-5, 6-8, 9-12 grade-level configuration.
School
South Bay Faith Academy is a private, evangelical Christian school enrolling approximately 225 students in grades K-8 and 95 students in grades 9-12. The school opened in the fall of 1986 and graduated its first senior class in June of 1987. Students enrolled at South Bay Faith Academy may be educated using a variety of instructional models, including traditional classroom instruction, private tutoring, co-operative learning, home instruction, online classes, public and private university extension and community college classes. South Bay Faith Academy operates on a semester system and students receive 175-180 days of instruction in a school year.
Mission Statement
Our Mission is to assist Evangelical Christian homeschooling families as they nurture, disciple and educate their children from a Biblical Worldview. We desire to encourage our families toward a Christ-centered unity with an appetite for learning and building Godly character.
Curriculum
To be granted a high school diploma from South Bay Faith Academy, a student must earn a passing grade in the following: 40 credits of English, 20 credits of Math, 10 credits of Life Lab Science, 10 credits of Physical Lab Science, 10 credits of World History, 10 credits of U.S. History, 5 credits of American Government, 5 credits of Economics, 20 credits of Physical Education, 5 credits of Health, 10 credits of Fine Art. College preparatory students are encouraged to take the following in addition: 10-20 additional credits in Math, 10-20 additional credits in Science and 20-40 credits in Foreign Language. All students must take elective courses to bring total credits to a minimum of 240 credits. Any academic class may be taken at an Honors level, South Bay Faith Academy does weight Honors classes. AP classes are offered at the discretion of individual instructors. High School students are allowed to enroll in courses and earn dual/college credits at local institutions of higher education.
Rank
South Bay Faith Academy does not rank its students due to our small class sizes and the difficulty in comparing course work among students.
Grading / GPA Calculation
Beginning with grade 9, all subjects, whether passed or failed, are included in the computation. Grades are recorded on the transcript and grade point average is computed in February and June.
