About Us

Q:

What does MCHE do?

A:

MCHE is a Christian-based organization that provides support to homeschoolers in Lauderdale County and the surrounding area.

Our purpose is:

To provide moral support and encouragement to parents who desire to home educate their children.

To share information and exchange ideas with parents who choose to home educate.

To facilitate access to social and educational opportunities in the form of various activities, events, and field trips.

To stay informed of, and encourage, participation in issues affecting the rights of home educators.

Q:

I’m new to Homeschooling, how can you help me?

A:

Welcome to your exciting journey of homeschooling! Our mission and purpose are to support and encourage homeschooling families and to provide resources and educational opportunities for new and veteran homeschoolers.

MCHE has a “Back to School Kick-off” in August of every year.  The Kick-off is opened with a short informational meeting and there are booths set up representing a variety of opportunities and activities available to our members.  The school attendance officer for Lauderdale county will also be available with the forms required to homeschool in our state.

The Kick-off is open to the public.

Q:

How large is MCHE?

A:

We serve approximately 100-120 families.

Q:

What does MCHE offer for students/families?

A:

Offerings vary from year to year.  We usually have several regular monthly activities such as Praise Choir, Park Day, Mom’s Encouragement Group, Art Club, and Teen Night.  Also, many events happen annually such as our Back to School Kickoff event, Thanksgiving Feast or Fall Family Fellowship, Family Fun Day,  High School Banquet, and Graduation.  Monthly activities are determined by our membership body. All members are encouraged to initiate, plan, and/or host an event.

Q:

How do I become a member?

A:

Any homeschooling family is welcome to join MCHE, and registration is open all year.   To become a member, click the “Join Now” button under the log in fields on our homepage.

Q:

How much does MCHE membership cost?

A:

MCHE membership begins on August 1st.   The membership price is $35.   Membership ends on July 31st.  You will need to renew your membership and remit payment by August 1st each year.

Q:

What does my membership include?

A:

Your membership includes access to MCHE sponsored events, communication and support via our website and email forum and an HSLDA membership discount.

Q:

How do I receive my HSLDA discount?

A:

MCHE families can use the MCHE discount code to receive $20 off the membership rate. Just add the code number to the "discount group" field on your application or renewal.

We recommend that homeschooling families join HSLDA. Even if you never experience legal trouble yourself, your HSLDA membership will help other homeschooling families to get the legal help they need and will help defend our right to homeschool here in Mississippi. Membership in HSLDA also gives personal access to the legal staff, educational consultants, selling privileges at the Curriculum Market, hundreds of resources on their website, and other discounts. For more information about HSLDA's many benefits, visit www.hslda.org.

Q:

Are there any membership responsibilities?

A:

As stated in Article V of our By-Laws, "the members of this organization will comprise all families who voluntarily join, agree to participate, pay their dues, and accept and sign the Statement of Faith".  Additionally, members are responsible for complying with the Code of Conduct.

Members are not required to participate in any specific MCHE events, but all events are member-led. First-time homeschoolers are encouraged to focus on their families for the first year. After they feel comfortable with their homeschooling routine, members are welcome to lead activities.  The number of activities we have to offer depends on the number of members who volunteer to lead one.  If each member leads or co-leads one event per year, there will be plenty of events and leaders to organize them.

Q:

Does MCHE have regular meetings?

A:

There are two annual business meetings for our membership.  The Council will present a financial report and any new business.  We strongly encourage our members to attend these.

The regularity of other meetings varies as activities are member-led and organized.

Q:

Can I start a new activity or event?

A:

Yes! We welcome and encourage our community members to start new activities or events.   All of our MCHE coordinators are volunteers. If you are interested in organizing an activity or event, please contact the council at mchecouncil@gmail.com.
