The Purpose of Lightshine

Q:

About Lightshine

A:

LifeShine is a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization established in 2006 and in 2019 it became LightShine Homeschool Academy. Lightshine was created to provide homeschooling families the opportunity to extend their children’s learning experiences outside the home, meeting once a week at a monitored campus with faculty, leadership, and other families who love and serve the Lord. The elementary students participate in a variety of enrichment classes, while the Upper School students are offered the opportunity to work on their academic coursework. Lightshine offers opportunities for students to develop positive friendships and sharpen social skills in a group environment. At Lightshine, we work in partnership with parents, striving to assist them in the discipling of their children through Christ-centered classes and activities.

Lightshine is also about building up parents and offering them a community that they can lean on for support and build new friendships, with other parents who are committed to the Christ-centered education and enrichment of their children.

Our Elementary age students in grades Kinder - 6th start their day with the pledge of allegiance and singing patriotic songs, prayer, and devotion. They then divide up and participate in enrichment classes such as art, drama, and PE, which are more difficult to provide at home. These classes provide meaningful opportunities for children to express themselves in a fun environment. They get to display these talents are our annual Christmas musical / Art Show and our spring productions. They also get to sharpen their skills and or learn new things in math games, spanish, literature,  and in science by doing experiments in a group setting.

Our Upper School students, grades 7th - 12th, get the chance to take both core and elective classes. Since core classes become more challenging as grade levels rise, Lightshine can help with these classes by offering subjects taught by qualified instructor one day a week. Students will then take home assignments to work on for the remaining weekdays, under the guidance and supervision of their parents. In addition, class discussions in literature and in other classes adds insight from fellow students who share a Godly worldview. Our science classes offer lab experiments, dissections, and applying the scientific method to allow for science mastery. Students are also offered fun elective classes such as drama, art, speech, home economics, computer science, and PE to name a few. These classes are offered on a rotating basis and change year to year.

Our desire is to help children and youth experience activities and classes that provide an opportunity to develop their God-given gifts and abilities. In the process, we strive to build a strong community that builds up our children and our parents. This desire and goal is led by our instructors, leaders, and families who all hold strong Biblical values and strive to honor Jesus Christ in all they do and say while aiding in the discipleship and education of God's children.

Our Name

Q:

Our Name

A:

We arrived at our name, “Lightshine,” by considering the scripture, “Let their light shine before men in such a way that they may see their good works, and glorify our Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). The goal was to join with parents to help cultivate young lives that honor God, love God’s Word, and live a life that exemplifies Christ’s teachings to glorify our Father in Heaven. We encourage praying Biblical scriptures over our children, believing God will honor our prayers and help each child’s Light Shine for Jesus.

Prayer as Our Foundation

Q:

Prayer as Our Foundation

A:

We encourage parents to pray regularly over the teachers and children of Lightshine. We ask that each parent purchase a book called “Praying the Scripture For your Children.” We feel like having parents praying scripture over leadership, teachers and children has power, creates unity in Christ, and fosters acceptance and grace for everyone. We aim to meet every other month for prayer, starting in September and ending our school year in May.
