The Purpose of LifeShine

Q:

About LifeShine

A:

LifeShine is a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization established in 2006. LifeShine was created to provide homeschooling families the opportunity to extend their children’s learning experiences one day a week. By enlisting a new adult to teach, as well as interacting with like-minded students, positive friendships and social skills are experienced and different teaching methods are introduced. Parents are also able to form new friendships and receive encouragement by meeting other parents also committed to the education and enrichment of their children.

Elementary age students in grades 1-6 are enrolled in enrichment classes such as drama and choir, which are more difficult to provide at home, and provide meaningful opportunities for children to express themselves outside the confines of a paper and pencil. They also get a chance to display these talents in our annual Christmas musical and spring play production

Upper School students, grades 7-12, are also offered through drama and art a chance to grow and explore their more creative side and also participate in a spring play. Because core classes become more challenging as the grade level rises, LifeShine also offers core subjects in the sciences, writing and literature, with other courses on a rotating basis. Though critical thinking and book knowledge are invaluable, lab experiments, dissection and applying the scientific method are crucial to science mastery. Because primary teaching is done at home, which might have limited space and lack of equipment, these areas can sometimes be overlooked or eliminated from teaching at home, but are crucial to mastery. In addition, discussion of a work of literature and gleaning insights from fellow students with a Godly worldview is invaluable in a group setting like LifeShine.

Our desire is to help children experience activities that provide an opportunity to develop their God-given gifts and abilities. Our instructors hold to strong Biblical values and strive to honor Jesus Christ in all they do and say.About

Our Name

Q:

Our Name

A:

We arrived at our name, “LifeShine,” by considering the scripture, “Let their light shine before men in such a way that they may see their good works, and glorify our Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16). The goal was to join with parents to help cultivate young lives that honor God, love God’s Word, and live a life that exemplifies Christ’s teachings to glorify our Father in Heaven. We encourage praying Biblical scriptures over our children, believing God will honor our prayers and help each child’s Life Shine for Jesus.

Prayer as Our Foundation

Q:

Prayer as Our Foundation

A:

We encourage parents to pray regularly over the teachers and children of LifeShine. We ask that each parent purchase a book called “Praying the Scripture For your Children.” We feel like having parents praying scripture over leadership, teachers and children has power, creates unity in Christ, and fosters acceptance and grace for everyone. We meet every other month for prayer, starting in September and ending our school year in May.

Program Philosophies

Q:

Program Philosophies

A:

We strive not to offer just a one stop drop off, but a Godly community where friendships are made and learning takes hold in the heart as well as the mind.

Every family arrives at the decision to home school for different reasons. There is however, one commonality – we all want the best for our children. LifeShine aims to provide the best educational opportunities that we can. We search diligently to provide experiences you would give your own child if time and ability allowed it. Too often as homeschoolers, we get consumed in the academics of education stressing math, grammar, and science over art, drama, and physical education. It is for that very real inclination that LifeShine offers quality enrichment programs. It is also why we offer a variety of science classes as reading and tests can often take priority over the very real knowledge gleaned from dissections and lab experiments and differing views on works of literature.

It is also why we offer additional activities like field trips, Upper School game night, a Valentine's party, pajama day, and, on a rotating basis, Texas Day and Fiesta. We also have a Muffins with Mom breakfast once a semester and Mom Night Out because drop off and pick up times do not always afford enough time to talk and spend time with new friends.

LifeShine's goal is to create an environment where everyone looks forward to Thursday.
