FAQs

Q:

Do I have to join 4-H to participate in your classes?

A:

Yes. Our co-op is also a 4-H club. 4-H membership gives us insurance coverage, access to 4-H resources and materials, and allows us to offer classes at low cost.

Q:

Who can join Thames Valley 4-H?

A:

We are a 4-H club which means we welcome all children ages 5-19.

We meet in and around the Norwich area on Fridays during the day. We mainly consist of homeschoolers in New London County.

Q:

Do I have to be a volunteer in your club in order for my child(ren) to participate in classes?

A:

In order for our co-op to function properly we need parent volunteers. Parents teach the classes, assist the teachers, clean up and run every aspect of our group. We require every parent to volunteer in some capacity.

Q:

Do you have classes for teens?

A:

Yes, we do offer classes and get-togethers for pre-teens and teens.

Q:

Can I drop off my child?

A:

Generally speaking, all the parents in our club stay during classes because they are teaching, assisting teachers, or caring for the toddler children of other parents who are teaching or assisting a teacher.

Q:

My child has special needs. Can we still join?

A:

We welcome all children and families into our co-op. If your child has special needs, please let us know so we can more effectively serve your family.

Q:

When are classes held?

A:

We have 16-week-long class sessions in the Fall and Spring. In each session we hold classes and field trips on alternating Fridays.

Q:

What is the typical daily schedule?

A:

We generally begin our day around 10 in the morning and go until around 1:30. During that time we offer 2 classes in 45 min blocks with a break for lunch.

Q:

What is a homeschool co-op?

A:

A homeschool co-op is a group of families who meet together and work cooperatively to achieve common goals. Co-ops can be organized around academics, social time, the arts, activities, crafts, service work, projects — or some combination of these.
