Additional Information

Hey there, homeschooling families!

We have a great opportunity available to those who have a heart to serve at the Copperas Cove Animal Shelter! ??

We have been invited to come, starting Thursday, Feb 29, 2024, from 9:15-11:30AM (we will start work at 9:30AM) to help out with all of the shelter related things. These tasks will range pretty dramatically from cleaning kennels, doing laundry, reading to animals, giving the animals affection and some play time to taking out trash and aiding with bathing dogs. So fun to jump in and help out!! The more the animals get to interact with all ages of people, the more well socialized they'll become and the better fit they will be when they're placed in their forever homes. In addition, we show up and let the shelter staff and volunteer core know how valued they are and that we, as a community, support them.

As you can imagine, anything dealing with animals will have some inherent risk with it and therefore some stringent rules in place to keep everyone, 4 legged and 2 legged alike, safe and happy. Therse missions will be done in two groups on separate Thursdays, younger kids (6yo-11yo) and older kids (12yo and up). Now, if you have kids who span both age groups and both ages of children would like to participate, please sign your children up for the younger group! (the older, with the younger in the younger age group)

These groups will be limited to SIX volunteers per session- This includes adults who will stay at the facility! So parents, if you plan to stay/go into the shelter with your child, please make sure you also sign up for the event!

Please be sure that you take the time to read the volunteer guidelines, review them with your children and have the release signed for each participant to turn in when you come to volunteer. This is mandatory in order to help out.

**Please be aware that there are LATEX GLOVES at use in the facility! If you or your child need gloves that are not latex, you will need to provide them for yourselves!! We have also found it to be helpful to bring a bottle of water to drink while you work! **

If you have children younger than 6, but the children in your family ages 6yo and up would like to participate in volunteering, please reach out and perhaps another participating parent would be willing to supervise your child at the facility. This won't always work out as space is so limited and families have obligations beyond their service here, but it is worth a try and the shelter will allow a child to attend with another responsible adult, so long as the paperwork is submitted by their parents. ??

Here is a map to the shelter!

Please fill this out and print it and bring it in with you!

If you have any questions about this opportunity, please don't hesitate to reach out! I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have. You can text or call me at 254-290-1980 or you can email me at e.abcunas@aol.com
