General Membership

Q:

How do I become a member of CHESS?

A:

1. Register and pay online here. Once your online submission has been received, a board member will review and contact you with further information to you plugged into CHESS. 

2. You may also register in-person at the CHESS Not Back to School Carnival on August 6th, 2021. For more information, please see the CHESS Calendar of Events.

Q:

Do I have to sign a Statement of Faith in order to join CHESS?

A:

Yes. CHESS is a Christian Homeschool ministry and as such members are required to agree and adhere to the Statement of Faith. The Statement of Faith can be viewed and/or downloaded in pdf format here.

Q:

What are the benefits of becoming a member of CHESS?

A:

Membership in CHESS entitles homeschooling families to participate in the following activities:

  • Adult Night Out (moms, dads, or both!)
  • Field Trips
  • Park Days
  • Holiday Parties
  • Prom
  • CHESS Bowling League
  • CHESS Chess Club
  • Used Curriculum Sales
  • CHESS End of Year Bash
  • CHESS Graduation (Senior, 8th, and Kindergarten)
  • Access to our private Member Only Forum, Classifieds, Directory
  • CHESS Cooperative Classes

Q:

What are the fees associated with CHESS?

A:

CHESS membership is an annual $35 per family. This $35 membership fee is paid each year in the fall. 

There are separate fees for participation in the CHESS Cooperative classes. Also, separate fees may apply for field trips, special events, and CHESS clubs.

Q:

How do I stay updated on CHESS happenings?

A:

1. Check the CHESS Calendar of Events often!

2. During registration (or update your member profile), sign up to receive the Weekly Newsletter and the Monthly Newspaper. If you are receiving a PDF copy only, please remember to check your email. (Don't forget about your "other" folders.)

3. Important announcements will be on the Member Homepage at chesshomeschoolers.org.

 

Q:

When can I register to become a member of CHESS?

A:

Membership is open year-round to CHESS!

Pro-rated membership fees do not apply for mid-year signups.

If you join mid-semester you may need to wait until the next session to join some CHESS Cooperative Classes or clubs. We are more than happy to talk to you if you have any specific questions.

When are the cooperative classes (a.k.a co-op) held?

A:

Fall 2021 Semester

FRIDAY
September 10 - November 12

  • Arrival & Check-In: 9:30
  • Pledge and Announcements: 9:45
  • Session 1 10-11am
  • Session 2 11-12pm
  • Lunch & Free Time 12-1pm
  • Session 3 1-2pm
  • Clean-Up 2-2:30pm

What cooperative classes do you offer?

A:

Classes change with each semester. The class listings and descriptions are updated as information becomes available. You can view more on the Class Registration page. You do not need to be a member of CHESS to view basic information about classes. You do need to be a member of CHESS and logged into your account to sign up for classes.

Some examples of classes we've had in the past are:
