We will start our afternoon off with a 45 min Intro to Raptors program where we will learn about the adaptations, habits and migration of raptors and get to see one up close. Hawk Mountain is along the migration route of many species of birds so we will be guided along the South trail to an overlook where we will be able to watch for migrating flocks. Our visit will coincide with the main migration times of the Bald Eagle, American Kestrel, Broad-winged Hawk, Osprey and Northern Harrier. You are welcome to bring along a pair of binoculars for the best viewing!

When the official tour is finished at around 3p, you are welcome to do some hiking on your own, meander through their Native Plant Garden or return to the Visitor’s Center to learn more about the birds you just saw. You may leave whenever you are finished just be aware that the park officially closes at 5p.

Note: Closed toe shoes are required (no flip flops or sandals, please). The South trail, where we will hike as a group, is ADA certified but any On Your Own hiking after the tour could require “boulder scrambling.”

Note: Because Hawk Mountain is over an hour away from Harrisburg, we are also offering a tour of Crystal Cave earlier in the day. You do NOT need to attend both events therefore you must sign up for each event separately.
