Strawberry Hill’s Maple Sugaring Program introduces the process of making maple syrup - from tap to table. Students will learn the history of maple sugaring in Pennsylvania, how to identify the characteristics that distinguish different types of maple trees, how to tap, and the supplies required to process sap into maple syrup.
Adults & students alike will participate in a taste test of various syrups – and they promised silver dollar pancakes this year - to see if you can tell the difference between the “real deal” and the artificially flavored.
This program will be geared towards elementary and middle school students although younger older students are welcome to participate. Part of this program will be outdoors so please dress appropriately!
We understand that Strawberry Hill IS a drive for most of our tribe but it is SO worth it! Their programs are very hands-on and personal. Your students will learn much.
Note: This program will ONLY be rescheduled if the Gettysburg & Fairfield school districts close due to weather. You will be notified of the cancellation via email as soon as a decision is made. Snow date is Mon 3/4/24.
