Last SEED Class of the 2013 Fall Semester!

Hello!

Thank you so much for your continued support of SEED, an interactive educational program that explores how nourishing food moves from seed to soil to our tables and inspires children to care for the earth. This program hosted by the Dickinson College Farm has been really successful this semester and it has been exciting to watch children experience the farm for the very first time while learning something new about their food.

Our last class of the semester will be held on November 16th and will be all about insects at the farm. It is sure to be another fun class, so I would encourage you to sign up fast if your child is interested! Only ten spots for children between the ages of 6 and 9! Please visit the following link to register: http://seed03.brownpapertickets.com/

10am-12pm
553 Park Dr., Boiling Springs, PA
Lively Ladybugs and Gnawing Grasshoppers
Check out the farm’s preserved insect collection and discover which insects are pests and which
are predators! We will make our own insect books and go on a scavenger hunt around
the farm. Try some delicious “bug juice” for a snack! Registration deadline November 13.

Suggested donation is $8 per child and pre-registration is encouraged. Donations will be collected via a donation jar available at each event.

Parents are welcome to participate, observe, take a self-guided tour of the farm, relax in the shade or take a short drive into beautiful Boiling Springs. At the end of the program, children are invited to show parents what they’ve learned around the farm.

Registration opens one month before each workshop. Space is very limited: sign up early! Registration links will be posted on the SEED webpage: http://blogs.dickinson.edu/farm/youth/. Follow the Dickinson College Farm on Facebook or Twitter to receiveregistration alerts.

Caryn Sennett is a junior at Dickinson College. She is majoring in Environmental Studies and Spanish and particularly likes to paint in her free time. Caryn also loves to read, hike in the woods and bake bread and she first realized her love for farming and local food three years ago when she stepped onto the Dickinson College Farm! Some of Caryn’s favorite activities at the farm include harvesting tomatoes, collecting eggs and running around with Bella the farm dog. Each day at the farm is a new learning experience. Caryn is really looking forward to setting out on a new adventure with SEED students this fall to learn more about how our food is grown and how to care for the earth.
