Homeschool Programs

at The Oakes Museum of Natural History

September 28 – Trees

Trees are the backbones of our forests.  Students will learn the structure of a forest, tree identification skills and how trees grow. Come prepared for a hike       

 

October 26 – Geology Rocks   

Discover Pennsylvania rocks and minerals, learn the rock cycle and how rocks are used every day.

 

November 24 – Insects

Using live and museum specimens, students will learn about this amazing group of animals. 

 

December 16 – Elephants

Students will learn about the largest land animal, how it survives, and why it needs to be conserved. 

 

Each program will be offered:

9:30 - 12:00 K-4th focus

1:00 - 3:30 - 5th-10th focus – this is a drop-off program

$10/student

 

 Programs for elementary students require a parent to stay with the child(ren). Younger siblings are welcome and are considered participants. Infant siblings are free.

 

Lab Classes for 6th – 12th grade students

October 23 – Earthworm and Grasshopper Dissection

10-12:00 Noon

Frog Dissection 1-3:00  

Students will be introduced to the external and internal anatomy of animals as they learn dissection techniques and lab safety protocol. 

 

December 18 – Histology - Tissue Lab  

July 22 – 1-3:00PM

Students will use prepared slides to study the main types of tissue found in the human body.

 

December 21 – Perch Dissection

10-12:00 noon

Frog Dissection

1-3:00

Students will be introduced to the external and internal anatomy of animals as they learn dissection techniques and lab safety protocol. 

Cost: $25/class   

Lab classes are drop-off programs.

 

Our grade designations are guidelines, not rules 

 

 

Pre-registration and prepayment is required. Space is limited so register early!
