The K-6 students will learn about Orienteering as they explore using a map and compass. Each student will build a compass, learn how to take a bearing, read a map, and complete a short orienteering course. This part of the program will last 1.5 hrs.  Then the students will tour the Appalachian Trail Museum and learn that they are standing very near the halfway mark of the trail which runs from Maine to Georgia.

Bring your swimming attire and a picnic lunch and spend the rest of your day exploring Pine Grove Furnace State Park.  Eat at the picnic tables under the pavilion, walk the trails, visit the General Store across the street, roam the beach or even swim in Fuller Lake.

The bathrooms/bathhouses will be open for your convenience however the concession stands are still closed for the season.

This is a free field trip however a "no-show fee of $5" will be billed to your account if you miss the class without contacting the coordinator ahead of time. Note there is NO cell service at the park so an email at least 2 hours before the class begins is requested.

Covid info: Masks are required inside all park buildings.  In signing up for a HAHA field trip or class, you are agreeing to our covid waiver. The waiver is viewable on our homepage.
