2026–2027 Curriculum & Class Overview

 

At Heritage Oaks Christian Homeschool Co-op, we strive to provide engaging, Christ-centered classes that encourage both academic excellence and a love of learning. To best meet the needs of our students, some classes are grouped by grade level, while others are grouped by ability level.

Our curriculum is reviewed annually. While our class structure generally remains consistent, the curriculum, literature selections, science topics, and history volume may change from year to year to provide students with a well-rounded education.

Class Placement

We recognize that every child learns differently. For that reason, Heritage Oaks uses both grade-level and ability-based placement.

These classes are organized by a student's current academic abilities rather than grade level:

Ability-based placement allows students to be appropriately challenged while building confidence and mastering foundational skills.

Science

2026–2027 Theme: Zoology

Elementary and middle school students will study Apologia's Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures of the Fifth Day (Marine Biology).

Our high school students are also studying Zoology, using a separate high school-level curriculum designed for older students.

Our Preschool and Kindergarten class introduces science through simple experiments, sensory exploration, nature activities, stories, and hands-on discovery that encourages curiosity and a love of God's creation.

Science Rotation

Our science focus changes each year, allowing returning students to explore different areas of science throughout their years at Heritage Oaks.

Language Arts & Literature

Language Arts and Literature are taught together as one integrated class and are ability-based rather than grade-based. Students are placed according to their reading and writing skills so they receive instruction that best supports their individual growth.

Our goal is to develop strong readers, writers, and communicators through a balanced study of literature, grammar, vocabulary, composition, and critical thinking.

To provide students with a well-rounded language arts education, we alternate our instructional emphasis from year to year:

History

History classes are grouped by grade level:

For 2026-2027 - High school students study World History using high school-level resources.

2026–2027 Curriculum

Elementary and middle school students will study The Story of the World, Volume 4.

History Rotation

Heritage Oaks follows a four-year history cycle using The Story of the World.

This rotation allows students who attend Heritage Oaks for multiple years to experience the complete series while minimizing repeated material.

Our goal is to partner with homeschooling families by providing a Christ-centered environment where students grow academically, spiritually, and socially.

Through hands-on science, engaging history, meaningful literature, purposeful writing instruction, and encouraging teachers, we seek to cultivate curiosity, wisdom, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning while glorifying God in all that we do.
