Theatre Class Descriptions

Children's Theatre Class I

Ages *6-9

*Child must be 6 on first day of class.

Taking what these young ones already naturally do with their own ingenious imaginations, the kids will be put “on stage." They will use an array of home-made, home-found costumes and props. They'll create scenery and sets making favorite stories come to life!  Our class fairytales will allow for unique diversions as in having four little piggies instead of the usual three. Improvised Mind-Island stories are a favorite - where the kids get to make up their own characters and situations to a narrative we create together.

Presenting their self-written and/or self-illustrated book, after a visit to your home with our class(stuffed)pet, adds to conquering any stage-fright and boosting self-esteem.

No memorization is expected for this class.

Throughout the year you should expect to be invited to our classroom for the occassional open-show.

INSTRUCTOR: Masha Furmanova, mafusha88@hotmail.com

CLASS FEE: $20 per child per month CASH OR CHECK ONLY

MATERIAL FEE: $20 one time only, due first day of class CASH OR CHECK

Children's Theatre Class II

Ages *9-12

*Child must be 9 by first day of class.

This group of boys and girls will be put “on stage" using an array of "backyard" costumes, props and stage materials. Kids will create familiar stories incorporating our own imaginative twists. Improvised Mind-Island stories - where the kids get to make up their own characters and add their own ideas to any plot they act out - are always a favorite. Participation of these students will be more evident than the younger class with a hope for less narration on the part of a storyteller (me) and more dialogue participation from the thespians.  Once the kids have gotten the hang of our theatre expectations, the kids will be encouraged to produce excerpts of popular fairy-tales working in small groups allowing them to choose their own costuming, setting and dialogue.

Memorization of scripts won't be expected.

Throughout the year, do expect to be invited for an occassional open-show.

The environment encourages imagination and lots of creativity that “just happens.” And... any inhibitions are dissolved in a safe and fun environment.  No scripts, no props, no costumes. Children's Theatre Class III

Ages 13+

Acting skills and stage presence will be developed through fun theatrical activities. Boys and girls will bring to life short scripted plays using an array of "backyard" costumes and props to create their own "backyard" stage sets. If your child is a writer of any sort - I do encourage and do welcome students to write their own plays for the class. (*I will work with a child individually on any such project.)  Submissions for a made-up play could be incorporated into class readings or performances by the class with my approval.  Some memorization will be expected.

*To date this class has performed 2 student-written plays.

Artful Journeys

(Ages 7-12)

Unleash your child’s creativity in this fun and engaging art class designed for children ages 7-12! In this hands-on, month-by-month journey, young artists will explore the basics of art and experiment with a variety of exciting mediums.

What We’ll Learn:

••Month 1: Basic Art Principles: We’ll start by learning essential skills such as the color wheel, shading, depth of field, and how to use art for self expression – all the building blocks for creating amazing artwork.

••Following Months: Each month, we’ll dive into a new art medium such as pencil and charcoal, watercolor, clay, oil pastels, and printmaking. With each project, we’ll follow a general guide, but children will be encouraged to bring their own creativity to life and make the artwork truly their own.

Class Features:

••Creative Freedom: While there will be a loose structure for each month’s project, your child will have the freedom to add their unique touch to every creation.

••Supply Fee: A small supply fee covers a multimedia sketchbook for each student, as well as shared quality and real art materials for the class.

••Smock Requirement: Because great art can get messy, each child will need to bring an old large t-shirt to use as a smock.

Final Project & Art Show:

••Masterpiece Creation: In the final month, each child will select their favorite medium from the ones they’ve learned and create a final masterpiece with guidance and support from me.

••Art Show: At the end of each semester, we’ll showcase the students’ artwork in a fun and inspiring art show!

This class is all about sparking imagination, building skills, and having fun while making beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations. Your child will leave with a new set of artistic skills, a deeper appreciation for art, and a portfolio of their very own masterpieces!

Club Descriptions

Art Club

Bring your art project that you are working on from home or your own art supplies. Work on your art during this club and enjoy hanging out with others while they work on their own art. There is no instructor for this club, there will be an adult volunteer supervising the club.

Student Newspaper

This class is for the students to create a student newspaper. They will plan and design the newspaper themselves. The students will use the class time to share ideas, share their work, create content, work on layout, conduct interviews, collaborate, vote on newspaper decisions, and put the newspaper together. The newspaper could contain articles, artwork, games, puzzles, comics, photos, whatever the kids would like to include. A reasonable goal may be to produce 4-5 newspapers for the co-op during the co-op year, but the students can adjust the schedule and produce more newspapers if they wish. There will be an adult advisor to provide suggestions, help with layout when needed, and printing of the newspaper, but this will not be a teacher-led class; it is a student-led class. This class is open to any age that would like to work on a newspaper. The class is free, but students must attend regularly, be active participants in the class, and regularly contribute content to the newspaper in order to remain in the class. Max 10 students.
