Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are you a Christian organization?
A: Connections Homeschool Resource Center is not affliated with a religious organization or certain denomination. However, many staff and families involved are Christians. References to Christ, Christian, Christian living and missions may be heard during class, and curriculum may be presented with a Christian worldview.
Q: Can I just attend social functions at Connections Homeschool Resource Center?
A: Students must be registered for a class in order to attend social events. For example, prom is held in spring. Students must be attending a class in order to attend the prom.
Q: Will my student have homework?
A: This answer can vary by age. For elementary classes, there is no homework. Parents may be provided with ideas for additional extension activities that students may enjoy at home. Middle school classes will have approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour of homework a week per class. With high school, it gets more involved as high school credits are based on the number of hours of classwork. In general, one high school credit is comprised of 100-120 hours of classwork. Because we only see your student about 30 hours a year, your child should expect 2-3 hours of homework per week per class.
Q: Does Connections Homeschool Resource Center have a Facebook page?
A: Yes, we have a public FB page that is located here. We also have a private Facebook parent portal that will display on this website once you are a registered member.
Q: How do I become a registered member?
A: Click on the "Request Membership" button on this website. Complete our registration packet and submit it. An administrator will look over your packet and send an approval message that directs you how to pay your $35 yearly membership fee. At that point, you will use your username and password that you created to login here to the member site. From there, you will see our class schedule, member directory, private FB page, detailed calendar of events, and more.
Q: Where do I find information regarding homeschooling through high school?
A: Information regarding homeschooling through high school is available from our administrator, Melissa Gephardt. She will also lead informational sessions during the year to cover common concerns including dual enrollment, transcripts, college prep, graduation requirements, diplomas, and more. While she may not know all the answers to questions you may have regarding homeschool through high school, she is happy to point you in the right direction and to encourage you during this exciting time. We also bring in some of our community college representatives to answer questions...and sometimes the best source of advice is simply meeting with other homeschooling parents who have been through this and have experience!
Q: How do I legally homeschool in North Carolina?
A: The NC Department of Administration has some great information on homeschooling. You can access their website here or at the link at the bottom of our webpage.
Q: What kinds of classes do you offer?
A: One of the most fun things to do is to plan the class schedule each year! Our middle school and high school classes include a combination of core classes and electives. Elementary classes are a new offering and will be thematically-based each month to keep it fresh and exciting!
