FAQs
Q: |
What is Curiosity CAMP? |
A: |
Curiosity CAMP is a weekly drop-off enrichment program for homeschool families looking to expand their child’s educational experience through certified instruction in nature, science, art, and electives in a classroom setting. Curiosity CAMP also provides community, support, and resources to homeschool families in the community. |
Q: |
How is Curiosity CAMP different from other co-ops? |
A: |
One of the things we are most excited about is that Curiosity CAMP is local to an area that is full of homeschool families! While we cannot claim that there are no other programs like this out there, we are excited to reach the homeschool families local to the Park Ridge area. Another difference is that our program will have a heavy emphasis on nature! Think outdoor classrooms, gardening, digging for worms, mudpies, etc. We anticipate being outdoors every single week (weather permitting). Finally, while there are some volunteer requirements, this is a drop-off program. This means that on the days that you are not volunteering, you are free to leave your children in our care during program hours. Many co-ops require parents to stay in the building, and we are excited to give parents a much needed break! |
Q: |
When does Curiosity CAMP meet? |
A: |
Curiosity CAMP meets once a week on Mondays, from 9:30am-2:30pm. Children ages 3-5 have the option of staying for a half day, 9:30am-12:30pm. |
Q: |
Where does Curiosity CAMP meet? |
A: |
Curiosity CAMP meets at South Park Church in Park Ridge, IL. |
Q: |
Will we need to adjust our curriculum in order to participate in Curiosity CAMP? |
A: |
Nope! Because Curiosity CAMP is an enrichment program, our goal is to "round out" the schoolwork that you and your family are already doing at home. Instructors may assign light homework from time to time, but we expect our families to use the curriculums that work best with their family values and rhythms. |
Q: |
Do I need to volunteer in order for my children to participate in Curiosity CAMP? |
A: |
Yes, we require families to volunteer. If you are unable to volunteer your time on Mondays, we do have opportunities for more administrative tasks that can be done outside of Curiosity CAMP hours. If you would prefer not to volunteer at all, you can "pay out" your volunteer hours. For more information, visit our Fees/Tuition + Volunteer Hours page. |
Q: |
Do I have to sign up for the full day, or can I sign my child up for one class? |
A: |
Parents have the opportunity to sign their children up for either haf day, 9:30am-12:30pm (ages 3-5), or full day 9:30am-2:30pm (ages 3 and up). There will be no option to sign up for individual classes. |
Q: |
How are grade levels split? |
A: |
There will be four classrooms: 2/3 year olds, 4/5 year olds, 1st/2nd grade, and 3rd-5th grade. **This is subject to change according to ages of students who become members.** |
Q: |
Is Curiosity CAMP a Christian program? |
A: |
Curiosity CAMP is a Christian-led program. Members of the leadership team, as well as our teachers, are church attending Christians. While our curriculum will include biblical principles, Curiosity CAMP families are not required to be Christians in order to enroll in the program. |
