Alexis Girling To All Instructors

Hello! My name is Alexis Girling, though most students know me as Señora Girling. I’m excited for another year of teaching Spanish at SCOPE, where I have the joy of sharing a part of who I am and where I come from with my students. I grew up in Puerto Rico, and being surrounded by Spanish language and culture was a truly meaningful experience that continues to shape my life today. Each time I return home and spend time with loved ones, I’m reminded how important it is to pass those traditions on to my own children. Being able to share that with our co-op community is an added blessing.
When my husband and I made the decision for me to step away from a busy work life and begin homeschooling, I wasn’t sure I could do it. Now, seven years later, I can truly say it has been one of the most rewarding journeys. With God at the center of our home, fulfilling my vocation as a wife, mom, and teacher is my greatest priority. In the classroom, I incorporate my faith in meaningful ways, such as teaching the Lord’s Prayer in Spanish and encouraging students to greet one another with kindness and respect.
As a teacher, my goal is to inspire curiosity and a genuine love for learning. I enjoy using games, conversation, and interactive activities to help students engage with the language in a natural and fun way. Seeing their interest in Spanish grow motivates me to create lessons that they are excited about. My hope is that students will continue exploring and practicing Spanish even outside of our Tuesday classes, carrying that enthusiasm into their daily lives.
