Liz Erickson To All Instructors

**New Teacher**

Hello! I’m Liz Erickson, SCOPE’s Science Teacher. I am a program manager and analytical chemist at Pace Life Sciences and am looking forward to teaching Experimental Science. I live in River Falls, WI with my husband, Mitch, and roommate, Courtney, along with our 4 dogs, 3 cats, and menagerie of farm creatures. Outside of work, you will often find me collecting, cutting or polishing rocks or doing experiments with my nieces and nephews.

I graduated with my bachelors degree in Chemistry - Criminalistics. Through my education, I spent a lot of my time mentoring and tutoring incoming freshman students. I was also highly active in our chemistry club where we would share experiments at local elementary schools and hosted the girl and boy scouts on campus to help them receive badges. I have been in the science industry for the last 15 years, primarily working in the lab. In the last few years I have moved out of the lab and into a manager position. This position has offered me another unique opportunity to help young adults build their career paths and develop the skills they need to achieve them.

At a young age, I discovered a passion for experimentation. I would mix seeds in water and see which would float or sink, creating my first backyard experiments. As I got older, I fostered this through my participation in Odyssey of the Mind and Science Olympiad. These hands-on experiments were what really helped me learn and develop the skills I would need to be a successful chemist. The confidence I built knowing I could actually DO science got me through my own struggles of dealing with lectures and ADHD. I truly look forward to sharing my passion with students and fostering their enjoyment of learning a wide variety of sciences through experimentation, building their confidence and curiosity.
