Exploratory Class Offerings (3 week courses)
BASIC ELECTRICAL - Adam Flink
In this 3-week course we will explore residential electrical wiring, including basic electrical theory, overview of common electrical components, important safety concepts, and a high-level overview of electrical codes and enforcement. We will wrap up the course with a hands-on project, giving everyone a chance to put their knowledge to use! Curriculum and supplies will be provided.
Additional information:
Teaching will be done primarily through lecture and discussion. Content will be developed by me and accompanied, as necessary, by a slide deck and/or handouts to provide outline and illustrations. Exhibits of electrical components will also likely be brought into class. For the hands-on project, I would like to have the students wire up an electrical circuit (such as a switched lighting circuit) in class using tools and components I will provide. The students will not be working with any live voltage at residential levels (120/240V). If time allows, I will test their circuits in class using equipment designed to ensure safety. The details of the hands-on project will be determined later after the class size and ages of students are known. I do not intend to charge any supply fee and students will not be able to take home any part of the hands-on project.
