Additional Information

BCHE's Park Days is one of our most popular events!  Come out and join other homeschool families from all around the area as we gather together for that "socialization" we all need wink

Young kids love the expansive playground and ball field.  Hordes of middle-schoolers and high-schoolers can generally be found engulfed in a game of ultimate frisbee or capture-the-flag.  Parents congregate under the pavilion and around the playground to chat about curriculum and other homeschool issues.  Non-members are always welcome to our Park Days, so feel free to invite homeschool friends who have not yet joined BCHE.

During the school year, Park Days are held at the park behind Westwood Baptist Church from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Thursdays.  (We occasionally have to cancel at the last minute, so it's always best to check the website for last minute changes!)

To maintain our great relationship with Westwood and to ensure Park Days are an enjoyable experience for all, please follow these guidelines:

  • DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY and DEPART ON TIME!   Westwood's Facilities Staff have asked our families not to arrive early since they must mow and do other maintenance work in the park on Thursdays.  (It is okay to show up a few minutes early if you are coming straight over from co-op.)  Also, they need us to clear out by 4:00 p.m. so they check the park and set the alarms.

  • Remember that Park Day is NOT a drop-off event.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  The only exception allowed are teenagers who can drive themselves.  We assume that if they are old enough to drive they are old enough to behave responsibly and monitor any of their *teenage* younger siblings.  (If teenage drivers are found to be driving or behaving irresponsibly, they will need to be accompanied by a parent the following Park Day.)

  • Please drive VERY CAREFULLY and SLOWLY around the park circle!  The speed limit is 10 mph.  It is very common for young children to dash out from behind parked cars to chase a lost ball, etc.

  • Keep a close eye on your children. Please ensure that your kids are using the park's facilities appropriately, particularly the restrooms, picnic tables, benches, and fire pits.  Please ask that they do not leave any marks on the benches (with pens, charcoal, etc.)  Pocket knives and all other sharp objects are forbidden at our Park Days.

  • Please ensure that your children stay out of the woods and away from the creek!

  • Remember to pick up your own trash, as well as help the church by picking up ANY trash you find scattered about.

  • Always double check that you and your children have all your belongings before you leave!
