Description:
Explore the fundamentals of figure drawing in this engaging course designed for middle and high school students. Students will have the unique opportunity to work with a live model as they develop their drawing skills.
Course Overview:
Duration: Three hours per session, Monday through Friday. 9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Content: The course will cover a range of topics including:
•Long poses: Develop patience and observational skills as you study the human form in detail over extended periods.
•Short poses: Learn to capture gesture and movement quickly and efficiently.
•Studies on form: Understand how light and shadow interact with the body to create volume and depth.
•Proportion: Explore the principles of human proportion to create realistic figures.
•Anatomy: Study the basic anatomy of the human body to enhance your understanding of form.
Objective:
By the end of the course, students will have a solid foundation in figure drawing, enabling them to create accurate and expressive representations of the human form.
Requirements:
•Student should have basic drawing skills and be familiar with drawing supplies.
•One VIRTUS-Compliant adult must be present during all sessions to fulfill two-deep leadership requirements. This adult will supervise the class and ensure a safe and respectful environment for all participants.
Supplies:
Supplies will be provided including: drawing board, drawing pencils, charcoal, erasers, blenders, newsprint and drawing paper. Students may keep the supplies.

Instructor: Katherine Bogacki
Mrs. Bogacki has a degree in visual art. She has received awards for graphic design from Marymount University and was invited to display her work in medical illustration at the VCU School of Arts gallery. She will provide guidance and feedback throughout the course, helping students develop their skills and unleash their creativity.
Note:
Please be aware that this course involves drawing from a clothed live model. This course will be taught from a Catholic perspective. Parents and guardians should review the course content to ensure it aligns with their values and beliefs.
Students should be quiet and respectful during the live model segment.
Wear an apron or clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
