- Historic Headlines: News That Changed Us: In this course, students will examine major events from the mid-20th century to today, including the Civil Rights Movement, Moon Landing, Watergate, Internet Goes Public, Hurricane Katrina, and 2008 Financial Crisis, among others. The class will focus on the key facts, impacts, and perspectives surrounding each event. The year begins with lessons on media literacy, bias, and research skills. After learning about each event, students will take a short quiz and participate in discussions that explore both conservative and liberal viewpoints. Guest speakers may join us to share firsthand experiences. The course ends with a 10-minute PowerPoint presentation assignment on a recent historical event of the student's choice. A small class fee helps cover materials, supplies, and printing.
- Computers, Connectivity and Careers: This class offers a dynamic introduction to the world of computers and digital careers. In the first half of the year, students will learn how computers work, what makes software valuable and how professionals build and manage tech projects. In the second half, students will dive into team-based projects that simulate working in a startup —taking on real-world challenges using what we've learned. This class is designed to give students a strong foundation in the use and practical application of technology with hands on experience and confidence to build on it.
- Personal Finance: (11th & 12th grade only) Dave Ramsey high school video course, Foundations in Personal Finance teaches students about saving, investing, credit, debt, money management and more, all from a biblical perspective. Students will also apply what they learn through practical application through an ongoing "Get a Life" activity. In this part of the class the students will go through the process of planning out a budget based on their career/college plan and all the decisions that accompany these hypothetical life choices. Students will have weekly homework assignments to complete as well as tests in class.
