2023 CHSA Volleyball Coaching Staff

MEET OUR 2023

CHSA VOLLEYBALL COACHING STAFF:

CHSA 18U/Varsity Volleyball Head Coach, Jennifer Hardee

I was raised in a volleyball family. My parents both played and coached and they raised my sister and I to do the same. I started playing volleyball at 9 years old and have loved the sport my whole life! I played club and school volleyball throughout junior high and high school. I received a volleyball scholarship to a small Christian school in Mississippi.

I began coaching volleyball alongside my dad when I was 16 and haven’t stopped since. I have coached both club volleyball and school volleyball and am currently coaching at AVA, Absolute Volleyball Academy.

I graduated from Santa Fe High School and received my Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University in 2020.

I am a ministry coordinator for Child Evangelism Fellowship, a nonprofit children’s ministry. I have been with CEF for 9 years.

In my free time I enjoy reading, writing, riding my bike and playing with my yellow lab Max.

I have a love and a passion for working with kids of all ages. I believe that sports allow us a unique avenue to teach important life skills. My biggest hope and prayer as a coach, is that I not only teach physical skills, but also help equip young athletes to be successful in all areas of their lives. I feel very honored and privileged to have the opportunity to be a part of the CHSA volleyball program!

Coach Jen

CHSA 18U/16U Varsity/JV Volleyball Trainer, Chanda Eager

I am a Houston native and alum of Clear Lake High School. A multi-sport athlete in high school, I earned nine letters: two in volleyball, three in basketball, and four in track. I competed at the state level in Class 5A in all three sports earning a bronze in basketball in 1986, a silver in volleyball in 1988, and was the Region III District Champion and placed 6th at state in 1989.

After garnering interest from colleges in all three sports, I chose volleyball. After playing four years of Division I volleyball, I graduate from McNeese State University in the Fall of 1994 with a degree in Finance. I began coaching 14s club in 1995 for Lake Area Volleyball Association in Lake Charles, Louisiana while I continued to play USAV Women’s Volleyball BB and B divisions.

Returning to Houston in 1996, I coached two more years of club before beginning my high school coaching career at my alma mater as the junior varsity coach in 1999. I took over the program in 2003. While at the helm, my teams amassed over 270 wins, five 20-win seasons, three 30-win seasons, 11 playoff appearances, 3 district championships, 7 regional playoff appearances, and 1 state tournament appearance. Coaching honors include three 24-5A District Coach of the Year, 2012 Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association (GHVCA) Coach of the Year, 2013 GHVCA All-Star Coach and 2013 Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Coach. After the 2019 season, I resigned my position as the head coach to focus on my family of four, my husband Sam, daughter Jordan (18), and son Sean (16). I continue to coach club volleyball today at Houston Stellar and also provide private lessons to players wanting to improve their volleyball skills.

I believe valuable life lessons can be learned through participation in athletics as sports are symbolic of life. In sports, we won’t win every game; we won’t always be the starter. In life, we won’t always get the job; we won’t always get the raise or recognition we deserve. But the perseverance we develop participating in sports can help us persevere through life’s challenges with grace and fortitude.

CHSA Volleyball Varsity/JV Assistant, Coach Jackie Wall

Volleyball was one of the first “loves” of my life, as I was introduced to the sport at the age of 9, and absolutely fell in love with it! I played every year after that- from 5th grade, all the way through to my Senior year, leading my team as a captain, and playing as an outside hitter. I went on to play for the Lady Eagles volleyball team at Pensacola Christian College my freshman year, and then continued playing competitively for my Collegian Team (“The Bears”) the remaining three years. I have always had a love for teaching and fitness, so during that time I completed my degree in Physical Education and Biology.

In the last two decades of getting married, raising a family, and homeschooling my own kids, I have had a few fun opportunities to volunteer as a coach. My latest opportunity was coaching at the recreational level for my daughter’s team in 2021, which I had a blast doing!

I am married to my husband, Joshua, and I have four children - three of whom are now playing with CHSA. Outside of coaching, some of the other things that currently fill my time are: teaching my kids at home, working at BAHA, training for a race, practicing the art of bread-making, and tending my new gardens.

I’m so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside the CHSA coaches this year. I look forward to helping with this amazing group of girls, and anticipate learning a lot myself!

Coach Jackie

CHSA 16U/JV Maroon Volleyball Head Coach, Stacie Gajevsky

I graduated from Sam Houston University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology and a minor in mathematics and secondary education. After graduation, I taught junior high science and coached athletics for 5 years. I coached 7th and 8th grade volleyball, 8th grade basketball, cross country and track. Outside of school, I also coached recreational gymnastics.

I have since quit teaching in public school and now run my own Homeschool PE Program along with all the special events at Pearland Elite Training Center. I absolutely love teaching and coaching kids and am so blessed to be able to do it in a healthier environment.

Outside of work, I help run my family's farm I'm currently living on. We have cows, chickens and a garden that's bigger than a football field. Since I was a little girl, we have been selling our vegetables to locals in our community. It's hard work but fun and rewarding at the same time.

Family is everything to me. I have huge, loving, extended family that gets together as often as we possibly can. We are a very sporty and active family, often times we are playing Spikeball, sand volleyball, baseball or just goofing off with a golf club. I enjoy all the memories we make together.

Above the love for my family is the love I have for God. I am passionate about learning and growing deeper in my faith. I have been working my way through reading the Bible from beginning to end so I can know God's words for myself.

Coach Nikki

CHSA Volleyball Mentor Coach, Tricia Hensley

I have been a teacher / mentor / coach for the past twenty years. I graduated from Stephen F. Austin with a degree in Hospitality Administration and a minor in General Business and I had a successful career in that field for several years. After 9-11, the industry took a huge hit and I found myself in limbo for the first time in my life. As luck would have it (more like God’s Plan and Intervention), I fell into a coaching position at Kingwood Jr High, where I coached 7th and 8th grade. I truly never saw myself as a teacher or coach. This was never MY plan. God showed me in this moment that He had a different plan for my life, and I now know, He knew me better than I knew myself. I found my calling, or should I say, it found me.

I have coached for the past twenty years in public education and have felt so much joy in mentoring young athletes and students in my classrooms. I truly thrive on seeing an athlete / student succeed. It gives me so much exhilaration and fuels my soul! I never saw myself as a mentor, but I believe God knew and he placed me exactly where I was needed.

Throughout my 20+ years, I have had the honor of coaching Jr High to Collegiate athletes in such capacities as: volleyball, basketball, and track. I have served in such roles as: Assistant Head Coach, Head Coach, and Girls Athletic Coordinator. In 2020, I completed my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and I am certified to be a Principal. Over the past few years, I have taught Dual Credit Classes and accepted the administrative role of CTE Specialist, while private coaching on the side.

Mentoring is my gift and my calling. I have started a new business called: “Prepare2Fly.” This business is centered on empowering athletes to reach their fullest potential while conquering goals that fulfill the purpose God designed. Through this business, I have the opportunity to mentor athletes one-on-one. I also assist them with college selections, designing creative resumes, and motivate them to find their gifts. I am excited about the new direction I am being driven and to see where God leads me from here.

I am the mother of a beautiful, talented, God loving 19-year-old daughter who attends Southeastern University in Florida. She is a collegiate athlete majoring in Family Ministry, and truly my inner motivation and inspiration. At the age of 9, she began her first Non-Profit and by the age of 16, she had started her second. Her plans are to open Godly Girl camps all over the United States and abroad. She would love to be a motivational speaker representing young women to become leaders for Christ. She is an inspiration to all she reaches and makes me a better person.

I am a wife to an amazing husband who is our rock. He is a strong provider and believes in hard work. He loves to play golf and has served as a role model for our daughter.

Family is very important to us. We love doing things together and often refer to ourselves as “The Tripod.” We need all 3 legs to stand. We love riding UTVs in the mountains, all things Disney, and have many new adventures ahead of us that we would like to conquer.

Coach Tricia

CHSA Volleyball Floating Assistant Coach, Alyvia Todd

Coaching volleyball has become one of my absolute favorite ways to give back to the community. As a volunteer volleyball coach for CHSA, I’ve been given the opportunity to recontribute to the organization that played a pivotal role in shaping who I am today.

I’ve been playing competitive volleyball for almost 10 years. I graduated from CHSA after playing with the organization for 5 years. I’ve been coaching since 2019, beginning with the developmental age group. Since then, I’ve been the Volunteer Varsity Assistant Coach, however, I contribute to all age groups - wherever help may be needed.

Outside of coaching, I am a full-time law student at the University of Houston Law Center.  I will graduate from U of H Law in December 2024.   In my free time, I frequently play in indoor volleyball leagues (co-ed and womens). I also love exercising and spending time with my family (including my dog, Ollie).

CHSA Volleyball VertiMax Trainer, Coach Jejuan Plair

"When everyone else found an excuse, I found a reason"

Most people could never tell the obstacles I have had to overcome in my life. Because of the struggles, I developed a character and a drive that pushed me to become a D-1 Mid-Major All American, lead my conference in assists, and became an All Conference player both on the court and academically.  Its important for players to know how a focused mind is an athletes best asset.

AT STARPLAIR'S - WE TRAIN DIFFERENT

In the new age of video games, ESPN Highlights, youtube, social media, etc a lot of fundamentals seem to have been lost at the youth level. Star Plair’s has designed a Volleyball VertiMax program to support CHSA Volleyball players.   VertiMax training sessions build vertical jump power, creating better landing control, and improving the ability to change direction with speed. Vertical jump, speed, agility and control are extremely important for all volleyball players. Being able to jump higher is a huge advantage on the court when on both the offensive and defensive side of the net. Besides vertical jump exercises, there are many volleyball speed and agility drills available as an extension off the platform that can take a volleyball player to the next level with quickness on the court and overall fitness.  Vertimax training gives your volleyball player a strategic advantage.

I have over a decade of basketball experience and own Star Plair's Basketball Gym with a wealth of knowledge gained from playing at the amateur, collegiate and professional level. I also have a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in child development, plus several years of conducting youth camps. I am married to my wife, Sapphire and we have two sons, Ausom & Avery.

After attending one of our VertiMax sessions, we know you will see the benefit of your player becoming one of our Star Plair’s.

To the parents: Thank you for allowing Star Plair’s  to train your “Student Athlete” in our Star Plair’s Explosive Agility Program. Without the parents allowing us to train coachable well mannered athletes none of this would be possible .

The Vertimax:  The VertiMax V8 is our training system designed to help athletes maximize speed and sport-specific performance.

I have trained athletes in, Basketball, Football, Ballet, Volleyball, Baseball, Track and Field and Tennis on this machine, and I can attest it works.

My Goal as Trainer:  Is to eliminate the use of the phrase “I can’t.”

In life without proper instruction or experience, our first thought when faced with new obstacles is, “I can’t do this” or “How do I do that”?

If you spell I can’t aloud “I CAN” will come out of your mouth first.  The “n‘t” in can’t, is nothing but negative energy and doubt.

I tell every aspiring athlete that I train, that the world will doubt you.  You will not be the person that doubts themself when you step into this facility.  Every one of their goals, is attainable with consistent effort, energy, and focus and they are in control of that.  With that, results will come.  How high do we want to go?   To the stars!
