Classes at Atlanta Homeschool Co-op

AHC is a traditional homeschool cooperative, which means classes are a true community effort! Each week, parents and children volunteer in various roles to fulfill the needs required to run our facility on class days. This includes setting up and cleaning up the facility, teaching and assisting classes, and administrative tasks behind-the-scenes. Class days are "all hands on deck," as working together builds the relationships that are the foundation of our community.

Zenith Classes

Address: 468 Moreland Ave SE, Atlanta, GA 30316

Our classes are held at Eastside Church in East Atlanta; we refer to this location as Zenith. These classes take place two 10-week semesters each year on Wednesday mornings. We offer a variety of classes for school-aged children, from kindergarten through high school. Additionally, we have class options for younger siblings too.

We operate two different schedules on class days. Our Upper School offerings are for students in middle school and high school (generally student 12+). Upper School classes run for longer intervals of time. They can be expected to include a higher level of academic commitment and outside homework.

(Non-Upper School) Class Schedule Upper School Class Schedule
10:00 – 10:55: 1st Class Period 9:45 – 11:15 1st Class Period
10:55 – 11:35: Break 11:15 – 11:30: Break
11:35 – 12:30: 2nd Class Period 11:30 – 12:45 2nd Class Period

Class schedules are differentiated on the registration schedule, so it is evident which class falls into any given time period.

Please Note: Our classes focus on school-aged children, so we ask that at least one child in each participating family be kindergarten age or older.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers teach all AHC classes. AHC families are "hands-on". Each family taking classes is expected to have one adult participating during classes. We ask each adult to fill 3 volunteer "spots" every semester (twice per school year) from the list below:

- Teach a class (counts as 2 spots)

- Assist in a class (1 spot)

- Monitor children outside between classes (1 spot)

- Set up or Clean up (1 spot)

- Rover (1 spot)

Families in which adults are not able to participate in our Wednesday classes program, please discuss your situation with the Registration Coordinator. (see non-participation fee)

Park Day

AHC hosts a Park Day after classes at Brownwood Park each Wednesday. Brownwood Park is right down the street from our class location, making it very convenient for after-class hangout time. Generally, a group stays to play from 1:00 to 2:30 or so. Park Day is a great time to build on social skills and connect with families that may not be taking classes. Park Day plans vary when classes are not in session, and communications on those will take place on the AHC Members Facebook Group. Non-members may inquire about Park Day by email

AHC Buddy Program

Our AHC Buddy Program pairs up our newest members with older members, as a way to help new members transition into the group! This program serves to help new members feel more welcome and meet new people. Class & Park Days can feel overwhelming and particularly hard for new families coming into a group with a good deal of history, and we want to make that easier!

If you are a new family that would like to participate, please ahcmemco@gmail.com, and we will get you paired with an AHC "buddy!"

Workshops: Workshops are held sporadically throughout the year. These serve as additional educational and community-building opportunities. Workshops opportunities will be posted on the Events Calendar when available.

Recent workshops have included:

  • Solar Printing T-shirt workshop: In this workshop, students used Solarfast, a light-sensitive dye, to create awesome shadow prints on t-shirts. Various stencils and objects were provided to help customize one-of-a-kind designs.
  • Paper Flower Making workshop: A talented professional florist taught families how to make beautiful, large paper flowers using paper, glue guns. This included lots of hands-on and fine motor work.
