Matt Arends To All Instructors

NOTE: Matt comes to us as a recommendation from Pat Caldwell of Gym Games fame.

Matt Arends graduated from Princeton University in 2016 with a focus in International Policy. He has consulted for several government agencies and worked for the International Rescue Committee in Tanzania. While there, he was part of a team that supported about 400,000 refugees from Burundi and the DRC. Throughout his professional career, Matt has also always been involved in coaching and helping youth find passion through sport and activity. He is a functional breath coach implementing practices that are designed for both stress and anxiety control as well as techniques that help with concentration, focus, and performance.

Matt moved back to Minnesota in 2019 to have double hip surgery and quickly found a passion in the local food movement. He has now built two geothermal greenhouses, one of which is now on the property of the farm he manages called Wild Roots Acres. His mission is to provide healthy, local food around the Prior Lake Area with the long term goal of turning it into an educational center for all ages that will focus on a holistic way of life. Much of the educational programs will be focused on gardening, breath training, yoga (outside instructors), cooking classes, and movement and mobility for healthier living.

Specifically for this course, Matt has spent time living with and observing Maasai culture and has a deep interest in the ways in which natural practices were taught for warriors in ancient civilizations. His deep interest in nature will guide the ethics and teaching throughout the 6 weeks!
