Dr. McGough would like to meet our students in person and requested an outdoor venue. We chose a less-used state park where we feel we have a better chance at getting a quiet pavilion without having to incur any extra rental fees and thereby increase our costs.
In our Pre-Employment Seminar, Part 2, Dr McGough will build on what the students learned in February and discuss resumes and interviews in more depth. We will start with a "refresher" - so if you were unable to attend Part 1 in February, you are still welcome to join us as attendance in Part 1 is NOT a prerequisite to this seminar (helpful but not mandatory). All high school students will benefit from this seminar.
Prior to the class, Dr McGough will email each student a basic, generic resume outline which will need to be filled out (using the information generated by the worksheet from part 1) and brought along to the seminar. These will be critiqued and modified so the student can leave the seminar confident of having a working resume. If you did not attend Part 1, or have since lost your worksheet, a blank one is available below. Please print it off, fill it out and use it to fill in your resume.
This 3 hour class will include more interview practice with stories of successes, failures, and laughs (or groans as the case may be.)
Bring your resume, a pen and notebook, and lots of questions. Parents are welcome to stay or drop-off. Since we are meeting outdoors, there will be no dress code - simply dress for the weather.
Bring a brown bag lunch as the concession stand will not yet be open.
You are welcome to stay and enjoy the park after the seminar is over. Hike a trail, swim in the lake – if you’re brave enough - or bring along a fishing rod and join Dr. McGough on the banks of the lake.
