BBC Doctrinal Statement of Faith
We believe that the Bible, consisting of all the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the infallible, verbal, Spirit-inspired Word of God. We believe that the Bible is the complete revelation of God and the final authority for every person and that it is without error. We recognize the 66 books of the Bible as the complete canon and that no words should be added or taken away. We believe that the Bible is truth and without error and that it constitutes the only infallible rule of faith and practice. (Matthew 5:18; John 17:17; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 1 Corinthians 2:13)
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. We affirm that men and women are created equally and have full access to God through the redemption of Jesus. We believe that God desires all males and females to express their gender in accordance with their biological sex. We further affirm that God ordained marriage and defined it as one man and one woman joined by God in a covenant relationship. (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:18-25; Psalm 139; Isaiah 43:7; Matthew 19:4-6; Galatians 3:28; Revelation 4:11)
We believe in one God who is the Sustainer and Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1-2:25; Ephesians 3:9). We believe that each Person of the Trinity possess all the divine excellencies, are co-equal, and coeternal. (Matthew 20:19; John 10:30; John 14:9; I Corinthians 2:10-13; Colossians 2:9-10)
We believe that Jesus Christ, the living Word, became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, according to the Scriptures. He arose bodily from the dead on the third day and ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of God, He is now our High Priest and Mediator. (Matthew 28:6; Luke 24:37-38; John 10:15; John 14:19; Romans 1:4; Romans 3:2-25; Romans 5:8; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8; Hebrews 7:25; Hebrews 9:24; 1 Peter 2:24)
We believe that all humans have sinned, are separated from God and are under just condemnation. The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus died for our sins to reconcile us to God. Our salvation through Christ alone is wholly dependent upon the work of God’s grace, is a free gift of God apart from works, involves repentance and a turning from one’s own way, and is through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Believing sinners are freed from the punishment, the penalty, the power, and one day the very presence of sin, and are declared righteous, given eternal life, and adopted into the family of God. (John 5:24; Romans 3:20-25; Romans 4:25; Romans 5:10; Romans 8:1; Romans 8:33; Ephesians 1:7; Ephesians 2:1-10; Colossians 2:11-14; I Peter 1:18-19; I Peter 2:24; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Titus 3:5)
We believe that the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ. We affirm that believers are sealed in Christ with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of God’s ownership and who serves as a guarantee and reminder of our inheritance. Further, we believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit’s continued dwelling in the believer’s life includes convicting of sin and regeneration, empowering, and imparting gifts to believers for service. The Holy Spirit instructs and guides into all truth and seals believers for the day of redemption. (John 14:16-17; John 15:26; Acts 1:5; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 1:13-14; Hebrews 10:15-17)
We believe Jesus is the head of the Church which is composed of all persons, who through saving faith in Jesus and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, are united together in the body of Christ. The church awaits the return of her Lord Jesus Christ, who will come again to the earth—personally, visibly and bodily—to judge the living and the dead and to set up His kingdom of righteousness and peace. In the meantime, believers are commanded to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19-20; John 16:9; Acts 1:9-11; I Corinthians 15:51-52; Ephesians 1:22; Ephesians 2:10; Colossians 1:18; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20-21)
This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The 66 books of the Bible, which are the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, are the sole and final source for all that we believe. For the purposes of BBC’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Leadership Team is BBC’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
