Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith

Brevard Homeschool Fellowship (BHF) has been established and operates by Biblical principles. We believe “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) All board members and teachers believe and have signed the Statement of Faith. Classes are taught from this perspective. All are welcome to join BHF and are not required to sign a Statement of Faith. Please note that class content aligns with the Bible and is tied back to a Biblical world view.

THE SCRIPTURES

God revealed himself to mankind through scripture. The Bible is without error and the entirety of scripture is the Word of God, which will never fade away. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

GOD

There is one living and true God. He reveals himself in the trinity as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit who have distinct personal attributes, but have no division of nature, essence, or being. He is Holy in all He is and does. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and perfectly wise both in the past, present, and future. He is intelligent, spiritual, personal, and the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. He alone is worthy of our praise.

MANKIND

People are uniquely made in the image of God as males and females. Gender is a gift from God and part of the goodness of His creation. Each person is uniquely made in God’s image and has value at all ages and stages of development and is therefore worthy of dignity, respect, and love. All people possess a sin-nature that separates them from God, but through Christ’s crucifixion he redeemed mankind, reconciled us to himself, and made us members of God’s household.

SALVATION

Salvation is freely offered to anyone who confesses that Jesus Christ is their Lord and Savior, believes his sacrificial death on the cross paid the penalty for our sins, and confesses that they have fallen short of God’s perfect standard and are in need of His forgiveness and grace. All of us are born with a sin nature and are in need of God’s forgiveness and atonement for our sins. There is nothing we can do to earn salvation; it is a gift freely given by God & belief in Jesus is the only way to salvation. Salvation is followed by sanctification in which we are conformed to the image of Jesus.

EVANGELISM

It is the will of God that everyone comes to a saving faith in His son Jesus. As followers of Christ, it is our duty and privilege to share the good news of the gospel: Jesus died and rose again for our salvation & he will come again to rule for eternity.

EDUCATION

God is the source of truth and wisdom and is the creator and sustainer of life. Everything is held together by Him. True knowledge and wisdom never contradict the Word of God. Training our children in righteousness is of great value and gaining Godly wisdom is the single most valuable aspect of education.

STEWARDSHIP

God is the giver and source of all blessings here on earth and in the life to come. Everything we have belongs to God. As believers we joyfully give of the varied amounts of time, talents, and resources entrusted to our care for God’s glory and His kingdom’s work. As a community of believers, we should use what we have for the benefit of any fellow believers among us who have need.

THE FAMILY

God created the family in the beginning as the foundational institution of society. Families are persons that are related by blood, marriage or adoption. God established marriage between one man and one woman for a lifetime. Marriage is uniquely designed to reflect the intimate and loving relationship between Christ and His church. Sexual intimacy is only appropriate inside of marriage. Children are a blessing at every stage of life and Christian parents have the responsibility to point their children to Jesus through loving teaching and by leading by example. Children are to honor and obey their parents. At their best, families pass on a legacy of faith and love that endures through generations.
