Parent Volunteer Requirements & Information

BHF is a volunteer-led organization therefore we rely heavily on weekly parent volunteers for it to run successfully.

  • Each family is required to volunteer 1 hour each week for each period you have a student attending class for a max of 2 required hours/week.

  • After your family's Registration Application has been approved (you must submit the $150 annual registration fee and pass the background check), you may register for volunteer slots and THEN classes. If you are signing up as a Teacher's Assistant, you may do so concurrently with class registration.

  • If you are a volunteer teacher (unpaid) you have met your volunteer requirement.

  • Volunteer positions are held for the entire semester.

Thank you! We love and appreciate our Volunteers!

Weekly Volunteer Positions

Teacher’s Assistant

Per insurance regulations, and for the protection of students and adults, we need to have 2 adults present when in the presence of any students.

  • Be ready to help the teacher or student(s) if needed.
  • How involved you will be with the class is up to the teacher. Please ask the teacher what will work best for them.

Hall Monitor

  • Make sure that students are in class when they need to be. No students should be wandering the halls or going into unauthorized rooms.
  • During class change, help students find their classrooms, if needed.
  • Monitor the student bathrooms and address any issues that may arise. Hallway monitors may enter the student bathrooms if neccessary with another adult present.

Floater

  • Be available to step in to help when/if needed, with little to no notice.
  • There is a limit of one hour per person per day as a floater.

Opt-out of Volunteering

If you do not wish to volunteer or have a scheduling conflict that does not allow you to volunteer (a regularly scheduled work call, etc.), you may opt-out of volunteering by paying the non-volunteer fee of $150/semester for one required volunteer hour or $180/semester for two required volunteer hours. There are a limited number of these spots.

Non-weekly Volunteer Positions

There will be opportunities throughout the year to volunteer on committees or to help with special events. We greatly appreciate parents who are willing to volunteer in this capacity. These volunteer opportunities may include:

  • Assisting with field trip planning
  • Event set-up or clean-up
  • Special Events committees
  • Being the group representative at events
