Why Rooted Oaks?

Our guiding verse is Colossians 2:6-7, which says, "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." (ESV)

When we think about the above passage, the imagery of a tree often comes to mind. As parents, we plant seeds that only God can grow. We teach our children and do our best to build them up in truth, but they must receive God for themselves and desire to grow in Him.

An oak tree is a strong tree that is mentioned in the Bible several times, and in Isaiah, the term and image "Oaks of Righteousness" is used to describe God's people receiving restoration of spirit. We recognize that growth takes time. The planting of a tree is a great picture of that.

As our children age, we want their faith to become their own and for them to walk in that faith. We want our kids to be like strong oak trees flourishing because they are rooted in Christ and built up and established in what they have learned.
