FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

WHAT IS THE TERRANOVA TEST? TerraNova is a nationally normed standardized test that measures achievement across the following subject areas: Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. It is all multiple choice.

WHICH VERSION OF TERRANOVA WILL BE USED? TerraNova NEXT is used for 3rd-8th Grade. TerraNova 3 will be used for 9th-12th grade. Both editions are approved by StepUp.

MY CHILD HAS NEVER TAKEN A STANDARDIZED TEST BEFORE. WILL THIS BE A FIT FOR THEM? Our proctors do a wonderful job of helping new students feel comfortable and at ease, as well as welcoming back familiar faces. The layout of instructions on TerraNova are designed for new students as well as returning students. Instructions will be reviewed prior to each step. Ex: Filling out the scantron, when to begin, where to stop, when to move onto a new section, etc. The test is timed and proctors inform higher grade students of how much time they have per section. Younger students are walked through each section with time as a priority. It is possible your child may not finish all questions as there is a limit of time per section. Incomplete answers are marked incorrect when passed through TerraNova's scoring system.

WILL YOU BE SENDING IN MY CHILD’S EVALUATION FORM TO THE DISTRICT? No. EVALUATION FORMS WILL NOT BE SENT TO THE DISTRICT. It is the parent's responsibility to arrange to email or mail in the evaluation form to their particular School District in a timely manner for their child’s annual evaluation due date.

WILL MY CHILDS TEST RESULTS BE SENT TO THE DISTRICT? No. Test results are never sent to the district. Test results will be sent directly from the scoring company to the testing coordinator/state certified teacher. If your child is enrolled through the School District, their results will be reviewed and determined if progress was made for the grade level they tested on. If progress was demonstrated, the evaluation form will have the check box stating that. The evaluation form and test results will then be sent to the parent via mail. The parent will have the single copy, therefore, no test results are kept for your child’s records.

WILL MY CHILD'S TEST SCORES BE SENT TO STEPUP? No. Test scores will be sent directly to families via mail as soon as we receive them from TerraNova's scoring company. We do not keep a copy of your records. It is the parent's responsibility to send in their child's test scores to StepUp. Please contact StepUp regarding any questions pertaining to testing requirements you may have. Your child will not need an evaluation form completed if they are enrolled in the general StepUp scholarship. StepUp will require you to send in your child's test scores. (If your child is part of the Unique Abilities StepUp Scholarship, the district will still need an evaluation form completed for your child and you will follow the district guidelines for evaluation purposes.)

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE RESULTS? You will receive your child's test results approximately 8 weeks from the testing date.

WHAT IF PROGRESS WAS NOT DEMONSTRATED ON MY CHILD’S TEST RESULTS & THEY ARE ENROLLED WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT?If progress was not demonstrated on the test results, the parent will be contacted by phone and may schedule a portfolio review as an alternative to show progress made, if preferred. Sometimes progress was not demonstrated in just one subject of the test such as Math, etc. If this is the case, you will only need to provide portfolio work samples from that particular subject, if the other subject areas of the test demonstrated progress. If remedial support is needed, options may be discussed over the phone.

You may register and pay below. Make sure payment is made immediately to complete your child's registration.

We are looking forward to another sweet year with your child!

Please reach out if you have any further questions. Happy to help in any way.

Blessings, Heidi Rhodes
