FAQs

Q:

How do I see what classes you offer?

A:

For a description of the classes that we offer, check out "Course Descriptions". This will give you basic information and pricing for each class.

If you want to see the current (or upcoming) year's classes, you'll need to be logged in. Once logged in, there will be a link for "Class Registration." All of our available classes are listed; click on each one to access information about location, time, and teacher.

Q:

What charter schools do you work with? Will you become a vendor for my charter school?

A:

Currently we are vendors with Golden Valley Charter School, Blue Ridge Academy and Heartland (formerly part of Inspire), and Sage Oak Charter School. If there are enough students and families requesting that we become a vendor with another charter school, we will consider it.

Q:

I'm with a charter school. How do I handle making sure my classes get paid for?

A:

If you're with one of the charter schools that we work with, there are a few extra steps that need to be taken.

  1. Make sure you pay your non-refundable $50 class registration fee.
  2. Inform your EF or educational consultant about the class you've chosen and the costs involved. Tell them what purchase orders you will need. For GVCS, that will be one (1) to cover the materials fee, one (1) for first semester tuition, and one (1) for second semester, a total of three purchase orders. Make sure that you ask for the correct amount for your class! For Blue Ridge, Heartland, Sage Oak, that will be one (1) enrichment certificate to cover first semester tuition and any related materials fees, and one (1) for second semester tuition. For any school, DO NOT SPLIT THE MATERIALS FEE BY SEMESTER. We cannot buy half of a book; we need the full materials fee up front.
  3. Make sure that we receive the purchase orders or enrichment certificate BEFORE classes begin; we are not allowed to let your student attend class if we do not have them in hand.
  4. Double check at the semester break that your EF is sending us the new purchase orders. We're still not allowed to let students attend class after the semester break if we don't have the purchase order. (This can be very tricky when they don't release funds until the new semester starts, we know.)

If you decide to leave the charter school midway through the class, or decide to drop the class, LET US KNOW IMMEDIATELY so we can make sure payments are applied properly and purchase orders are correct.

Also, please be aware of what your charter school will or will not pay for; Golden Valley will not cover classes in a private home, so please don't sign up your student for a class in a home unless you intend to pay for the class yourself. It is your responsibility as a parent to be aware of any limitations.

Please send the registration checks made out to YES Writing at 2006 Lincoln Ct. Oxnard, CA 93033

Q:

Where are your classes held?

A:

2021 NOTE: due to the coronavirus pandemic, we will only be holding in-person classes in Ventura, as it is the only location where we can keep distance and make sure everyone is safe. We will still be holding online classes as well.

We hold classes in a variety of locations around Ventura County, CA, such as churches, Boys & Girls Clubs, libraries, and occasionally private homes. For current locations, please log in and click on the Locations tab. (We keep them hidden for safety reasons.)

Q:

Do you offer any sort of multiple student discounts or scholarships?

A:

At this time, YES Writing does not offer multiple student discounts. We do, however, offer need-based scholarships. These are made on a case-by-case basis, and require completing the following application process:

Send an email to yes.writing.classes@gmail.com with the subject line of Scholarship. Write a paragraph or two explaining your situation and why you need a scholarship – this does not need to get into private details, but please provide enough information so we can determine your scholarship eligibility.

Once we have received the email application, we will review it and let you know our decision and the size of your scholarship within two weeks.
