We have a few openings available for May's K-2 class. You will be able to attend May's class, along with free admission to the museum.

All classes begin at 11am and last one hour.  The grade ranges we have provided are an estimate.  Parents can choose the class track that will be the best fit for their child, but please understand the teacher will use vocabulary and teaching materials appropriate to the grade range we have listed.

  • Price is $10

Topic:

  • 5/8 - Earth Science Lab - Making (Seismic) Waves

About HMNS:

Only purchase ticket(s) for your child(ren). Parents and non-participating siblings get entrance to the Permanent Exhibits areas of the museum for FREE on class day.

All children of the appropriate age attending the class will need to purchase a class spot. Siblings who don’t want to purchase a class spot are welcome to wait in the hallway outside of class or explore the museum with an adult in your party. “Sit ins” will not be allowed in the classroom unless they are too old or too young for the assigned age range for the class. Also, remember these are not ‘drop off’ classes except for students 16 and older (per museum rules), so one adult will need to remain in the class or in the adjoining hallway.

Please remember, your class purchase is not unlike a timed-entry ticket purchase for a movie, play or other 'event' and is nonrefundable and not eligible for date or time changes should your plans or schedule change.

No Food or Drink is allowed in the classrooms or in the Museum Exhibits. You can bring a lunch and eat at the park across the street or at tables in the main entry hall of the museum. Remember, though, no food or drink is allowed into the exhibit halls or downstairs in the classrooms.

Traffic and parking can be tricky some days, so please allow extra travel time to avoid missing class.

ON CLASS DAY:

Please try to be inside the museum at least 30 minutes prior to class start time. Check in with museum staff at the kiosk just inside the HMNS main entry hall, across from the Box Office and you will receive your Chaperone Sticker. Let the staffer know you are with Deseret Homeschool and they will check you off the registration list. If there are large school groups, politely work your way up to the kiosk to check in. If the kiosk is not open, proceed to the classrooms in the basement in the new wing underneath the new Paleo Hall. Let the staffer manning the exhibit hall entry door know that you are joining a class with Deseret Homeschool in the basement. Please do not enter classrooms until the instructor is present.  Please sign in on the roster sheet when entering the classroom.

NB: McDonald’s isn’t the restaurant in the museum anymore - there is a new, more expensive burger place there now. Parking in the HMNS garage for homescoolers is now $12 rather than $6. There is free parking at Hermann Park/Zoo - about a 10 minute walk away.
