Why We Exist — and What We’re Building Together

Mission

CLC is a secular, inclusive, and affirming homeschool co-op that centers collaboration, care, and clear communication.

We create a safe and vibrant space where families learn, grow, and thrive — in community with one another.

Vision

We envision a world where every child is free to learn in safety and authenticity—surrounded by a community that honors their identity, nurtures their voice, and meets them where they are. In this environment, children are empowered to discover their strengths, follow their curiosity, and grow fully into themselves.

Core Values

Our values shape not just what we do, but how we do it — in every classroom, hallway conversation, and shared space. They are:

Respect for Autonomy

We believe each person knows themself best — and we trust kids to express who they are authentically. We don’t expect anyone — children or adults — to mask or diminish their identity to belong here. Growth looks different for everyone, and we meet each learner with dignity and respect as they explore, grow, and discover who they’re becoming — with support at every step of their journey.

Curiosity & Discovery

Learning comes alive when it’s grounded in what matters to us. At CLC, we follow interests, not checklists. Our offerings grow and shift with our group — shaped by the curiosity of our learners and the ideas our caregivers are inspired to bring to life. We embrace learning as a shared, lifelong journey. Mistakes are expected, detours welcome, and we believe in the power of what we learn from both.

Affirming Access

We celebrate and uplift LGBTQIA+ youth, neurodivergent learners, disabled community members, and others too often excluded in educational spaces. We work to remove barriers — physical, cultural, and structural — so every family has a genuine opportunity to feel seen, participate fully, and thrive. Every learner deserves to be welcomed, respected, and supported — not just included, but valued.

Caregiver Connection

Our co-op is built with families, not just for them. We know caregiving, homeschooling, and being human are messy — and that’s okay. You don’t have to have it all together to be part of this community. What matters most is showing up, being honest, and helping each other out where and when we can. We grow stronger through connection, not perfection.

Commitments

These are the foundations we build on — what we protect, what we promise, and how we live our values. We are committed to:

Secularity

CLC is proudly secular. We do not endorse or promote any specific religion, and all educational content is taught from a non-religious perspective. When relevant, students may explore religious or cultural traditions through a respectful, educational lens.

We prioritize evidence-based learning and knowledge that evolves with research and critical thought. While we may occasionally rent space from churches, our programs remain fully secular and inclusive.

Inclusion with Boundaries

We welcome differences — not harm. Inclusion, to us, is a commitment to protect — not a reason to sidestep hard conversations. At CLC, you don’t have to shrink, mask, or edit who you are to belong here — but you do need to show up with respect for the people around you. Every member helps uphold the safety, dignity, and joy of our shared space. That means setting clear expectations — and speaking up, with kindness, when something isn’t working. Our boundaries exist to nurture what we’re building together.

Transparency

Trust grows through clarity and open communication, not closed doors. That means sharing how and why decisions are made, keeping key documents like bylaws and policies accessible, and owning our missteps when they happen.

We welcome feedback rooted in care, accountability, and actionable ideas.

Transparency isn’t a checkbox — it’s how we maintain trust and stay accountable to one another.
