Mrs. Lisa Strilkivsky To All Instructors

I have been in love with creating things since I was a small child, making things has always been my favorite thing to do. When I was eleven, I began to be obsessed with trying to improve my drawing skills, which were quite abysmal. I discovered a book at the library, entitled, “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain,” by Betty Edwards, and suddenly my skills increased substantially, and my passion for art and making things became even greater.

I would often sketch friends and faces of celebrities, and little cartoons. And I became the set painter in my high school theater club, as well as the cartoonist in the high school’s newspaper.

After highschool, I continued “studying” art through books at the library, while I attended UNL for elementary education.

Later when my kids were at various activities, I would always have a drawing or painting with me to work on and continued honing my skills and pursuing my favorite pastime.

When an art teacher was needed at the homeschooling co-op we attended, I said I would be glad to teach drawing to kids, and I started a new passion, of teaching kids art, which I am continuing to do now, 13 years later.

In 2009, I joined the Lincoln Artists’ Guild, which I would become the vice president of (2016-2021), and through which I won several awards for my artwork, including Best of Show, Award of Merit, and People’s Choice Award, for several of my drawings.

In 2015, I had an opportunity to go to New Smyrna Beach Florida, to learn how to paint like Bob Ross. After becoming a certified Bob Ross Instructor (CRI), I began teaching more classes towards adults as an adjunct professor through Southeast Community College, several nursing homes, as well as at Urban Legends Art Studio.

In 2016, I became a certified instructor through Chartpak, in drawing, acrylic painting, and watercolor painting, and began teaching classes at Michaels Craft Stores. Shortly after that, I also started instructing students for the Lincoln Chinese Cultural Association. Additionally, since the fall of 2016, I’ve been teaching art for the Lancaster Learning Link.

Art has been such a blessing in my life in so many ways. It has expanded the way I think about God’s creation and has shown me to appreciate the beauty that can be found in any person, place or thing. I think studying art has also improved my skills in problem solving in creative and out-of-the-box ways.

I am very grateful for all of the opportunities God has blessed me with to share my love of Him and my passion for creating things with the many hundreds of students I’ve been able to teach over the years–it is still amazing to me that I have been able to do this thing that I love so much and share it with others. I am in awe of the journey God has brought me through, and I hope to continue to serve Him and inspire students for as long as He wants me to.
