The PA National Fire Museum is located in an historic 1899 Victorian Firehouse. It was once the home of the Reily Hose Fire Co. #10 of Harrisburg. Exhibits focus on the history of the fire service from the time of America’s colonial days to the present. Docents will be stationed throughout the museum to guide and explain the exhibits.
The Fire Museum has several permanent exhibits and a constant influx of new and rotating exhibits. One of its premier exhibits is the working Gamewell alarm system headquarters from Johnstown, PA dating to the 1920’s. This working exhibit allows visitors to pull the alarm box to ring the alarm! Another exhibit includes the 1792 hand pumper built by Richard Mason of Philly.
The museum also has almost 3,000 patches on display from fire companies throughout the US. Visitors are welcome to bring a patch from their local fire department and the museum will proudly add it to their display.
Throughout the museum there will be displays and information about creating a fire escape plan and info on how to check your smoke detectors. So, by the end of the tour, you will have fulfilled your fire safety requirement for the year. Please print out the attached Fire Safety certificate and take it along. The docents will gladly sign it for your portfolio.
The 3-story museum offers off-street parking and is handicapped accessible.
