Classroom Expectations

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

  • Students will raise their hands to ask a question.
  • Students will address the teacher by whatever name/title they prefer to be called.
  • Students will adhere to a seating chart that works best for the class as determined by the teacher.
  • Students will be expected to participate in the activities of each rotation.
  • Students are expected to complete ALL assignments given and should be active members in the class.
  • Students will make up any missed work by contacting the teacher for the missed assignments.
  • Students will get to class on time.
  • Students in K-9 should sit with their first rotation teacher during Opening Session.
  • At the end the last class time, student should help with resetting the classroom. They should return to the gym where we had our Opening Session to meet the rest of their family. Students should never be outside or roaming the building.

 

TEACHER EXPECTATIONS

  • Each class must have at least two adults present at all times. For larger classes, more adults will be assigned as teaching assistants. If, at any time, there is only one adult, please let Leadership know as soon as possible so someone can be assigned to help.
  • Communication should happen periodically with parents and their students throughout the school year via the website or e-mail regarding assignments, individual progress, and other expectations.
  • Teachers are not expected to give a grade to the students. Suggestions for grading can be offered to aid the parent in their grading decisions. Middle and high school classes might be given a suggested grade based on assignments that have been completed. Ultimately, parents are responsible to give a grade.
  • Teachers are expected to offer a class recap with any assignments attached. This should be done as soon as possible so parents and students can be aware of what has been assigned for the next co-op.
  • Teachers set the fee for their class, with a $10 minimum. The purpose of this fee is to cover operating expenses (copies, ink, supplies for projects, etc.).
  • Though attendance is taken at check-in, teachers should also take attendance in their classes. Any excessive absences should be reported to someone on Leadership so any necessary follow up can happen.
  • If teachers choose to have a guest speaker, they must be approved by the BRANCH Leadership Team prior to having them in class.
  • All field trips must be approved by the BRANCH Leadership Team.
  • First rotation teachers for grades K-7 will sit with their students during the Opening Session at 9:15 and will go with their students to their classroom. This will help with distraction and chaos.
  • If the content allows, teachers are asked to have an assignment during the year that can be presented or displayed at the Spring Showcase in April.
