Birdhouse Workshop (10 a.m.—12 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013)

Learn about cavity-nesting birds including bluebirds, tree swallows, house wrens, chickadees, owls, and woodpeckers. We will discuss cavity-nesters’ habits and habitats and learn why they are an important part of the ecosystem. It has become harder for these birds to find suitable nest sites because of loss of habitat—build a birdhouse and help increase their populations while attracting these beautiful creatures to your backyard for a close-up look. Participants will also learn how to sight and monitor their birdhouse including how to become part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Nestwatch citizen science program. All supplies will be provided to build cedar bluebird boxes. (There is an additional charge of $20 per participant for this program to cover supplies and preparation.) Best for 3rd grade and up.
