PSEO English Courses

College Writing and Research - ENG 1510 - 3 credits  (Crown College)

Instructor:  Whitney Grindberg

Prerequisite:  none

Course Type:  One semester course offered fall semester only.  Students from WEST can take classes in a hybrid format in which they meet for an hour and a half face-to-face with a qualified course assistant selected by WEST and approved by Crown. The rest of the weekly activities for classes are online, led by one of Crown’s online faculty members. This option gives students the opportunity to get support from a familiar homeschool course assistant while taking a high quality online course under the guidance of a credentialed faculty member from Crown. The courses have a low student to instructor ratio and are offered in a 15 week format. All PSEO students are supported by a dedicated PSEO academic advisor.

Course Description:  This course emphasizes the fundamentals of effective writing in the context of the elements of rhetoric: writer, audience, and purpose. Students write narrative, informative, and persuasive compositions and a documented research paper. 

 Total Due:

  • All tuition and text materials costs for this course are paid to Crown by MN PSEO funding.
  • Adjunct professors are paid by Crown.
  • Fee for this 3 credit course is $15.00 ($5.00 per credit) plus a $20.00 one-time/student/semester initial administrative processing fee.

 


Introduction to Literary Analysis - ENG 1512 - 3 credits  (Crown College)

Prerequisite:  College Writing & Research (ENG 1510)

Course Type:  One semester course offered spring semester only. Students from WEST can take classes in a hybrid format in which they meet for an hour and a half face-to-face with a qualified course assistant selected by WEST and approved by Crown. Course Description:  Continued instruction and practice in writing and the writing process are the focal points of this course, with emphasis on critical analysis of literary genres.

American Literature - ENG 2510 - 3 credits  (Crown College)

Course Description:   An overview of non-dramatic literature of the United States, showing its development from colonial times to the present. Students also work individually and collaboratively to explore topics, works, and authors representing multi-cultural voices in the changing canon of American literature.
