What is the mission and vision Redwoods Homeschool Community?

Redwoods Homeschool Community exists to reflect the love of Jesus Christ by cultivating community and equipping families, supporting and providing them with the tools they need to thrive in their home education journey.

We desire to build a community, "a second home," in which every homeschooling family can grow and thrive.

What are your Pillars?

Our four pillars guide how we live out our mission each day.

Enrich – We believe in providing enriching educational experiences that go beyond the classroom, inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a passion for learning.

Engage – We actively engage students and families in our community, encouraging active participation, collaboration, and service.

What are your Values?

We value a LEGIT culture:

L - Lead with the Lord

E - Excellence

G - Growth and Development

I - Intentionality

T – Teamwork

What types of families and students does Redwoods serve?

We serve homeschooling families with many backgrounds. Our families are typically from the Bristol area and neighboring towns, but we also have families who travel around 45-55 minutes. While we are a Christian organization, we welcome all homeschooling families. We ask that all Redwoods families adhere to our Handbook and Code of Conduct.

How does Redwoods support the homeschooling community?

We offer several programs and activities to our members. Programs include two co-ops, Teen Council and Jr. Teen Council, and the Classes Program. Activities include field trips, mom’s nights, Fellowship Days, Fun Days, and Recess. We offer various homeschooling Events to all homeschoolers and will be adding other events and workshops as we grow.

What are the expectations for Instructors in terms of incorporating faith-based perspectives into their teaching?

We expect all Instructors to have a testimony at the ready to share with students or parents when appropriate (Matthew 28:19-20, 1 Peter 3:15). Curriculum is often faith-based but not always required; we understand that some subjects may not have strong Christian resources. Whether you use an existing curriculum or design your own, all subject matter and instruction must align with our Statement of Faith.

How much flexibility do I have in deciding on which curriculum is used or how I create my lesson plans?

We view curriculum planning as a collaborative process. In some cases, we’ll suggest materials; in others, we’ll invite you to recommend what best fits your subject. Lesson plans are required and reviewed before the semester begins to ensure alignment with our goals and standards.

What training and professional development opportunities are available to Instructors?

We require and offer both a MinistrySafe training and our Instructor Orientation. We encourage professional growth and development and occasionally provide optional resources to explore on your own. As Redwoods grows, it is our hope to add professional development opportunities.

What methods of communication does Redwoods use?

We use Slack for quick communication and community updates, and email for official notices. All instructors are expected to check Slack regularly and respond to messages in a timely manner.

What is the process for becoming an instructor with Redwoods?

The process begins with an application. After reviewing your submission, we’ll schedule an informal phone conversation to get to know you and ensure Redwoods is a good fit. Next, we’ll invite you to an in-person interview to learn more about your teaching interests and experience. Following the interview, selected candidates will receive details on the next steps, which include completing a background check and signing a Fixed-Term Contract for the semester.

Are instructors employees or independent contractors?

Instructors are employees of Redwoods who serve under a Fixed-Term Contract for the semester. Each contract outlines pay, expectations, and class details. We view our instructors as valued members of the Redwoods team, partnering with us to provide high-quality, Christ-centered classes to homeschooling families.

What is Redwoods’ policy on class cancellations or low enrollment?

If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment, we’ll notify you before the semester begins and discuss alternative options, such as combining or postponing classes. Details regarding cancellations are clearly outlined in your contract. We do our best to ensure classes move forward as planned, and instructor pay is not contingent on the number of enrolled students — you are paid per class taught. Our goal is to work together to find solutions that best serve both families and instructors while maintaining a thriving, supportive community.

How does Redwoods evaluate classes and instructors?

We value excellence, growth, and open communication. Feedback is gathered through student and parent input, classroom observations, and ongoing conversations with leadership. We view evaluation as a collaborative process designed to support and encourage you as an instructor, helping you continue to thrive and grow within the Redwoods community.

What if I am homeschooling my own children, do I have to become a member?

You do not have to become a member to be an instructor in our Classes Program. However, as a homeschooling parent, if you wish to participate in any Redwoods programs or activities then you must become a member.

If I am a Redwoods member, are there any discounts or priority given to Instructors?

We do not offer discounts for any families, including instructor members. Instructors, however, will have priority in registering their children for classes in the Classes Program.

Is childcare available to me while I’m in class?

No. We do not offer any childcare services. However, you may make arrangements with other instructors or members of Redwoods to care for your children while on campus. Children must not be a distraction to your instruction or to students in the program.
