Scripps Spelling Bee
CFS Poway is hosting the Scripps Spelling Bee for all CFS groups in San Deigo. This is a qualifying homeschool event for the National Scripps Spelling Bee.
Friday, January 29, 2016, 1 to 3 pm at 4S Ranch Library
We are inviting all 7th to 8th graders (5th and 6th graders may register for competition experience but will not qualify to go to County) to participate in the CFS Scripps Spelling Bee competition. The winner of this spelling bee will go on to represent CFS at the San Diego County Spelling hosted by the San Diego Union Tribune on March 15, 2016 in Balboa Park against other 7th and 8th grade finalists. The winner of the country competition will be given an trip to Washington D.C. to compete in the National Scripps Spelling Bee for cash, awards, and prizes. http://spellingbee.com/prizes
Age restriction: Eligible students must not turn 15 before August 15, 2015
Scripps has additional eligibility rules. Every family is responsible to read these over carefully to make sure that they qualify to participate in this competition. The rules have been attached as a pdf.
The first and second place winners of our CFS competition will each win a full year online subscription to the Encyclopedia Britannica. Only the highest finishing 7th or 8th grade student will go on to compete at the County Scripps Spelling Bee as the CFS finalist.
The official 2015 Spelling Bee list will only be provided to those students who have registered and paid for their registration. Please note, this registration is non-refundable.
We also request that every family assist in the competition in some way by volunteering for setup or cleanup. We may ask certain families to assist with other tasks during the competition such as preparing certificates, coordinating refreshments, etc.
IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: Scripps spelling lists are proprietary and copyrighted by the National Scripps Spelling Bee. By signing up for our competition, you are agreeing not to copy, share, publish, duplicate or distribute these lists as it is prohibited by law. This provided list is for your student’s use only to study for the competition.
