I am pleased to offer a series of classes in Oceanography. The classes are intended to be multidisciplinary i.e., include English, Science, Geology, Geography and some maths skills. I will be including information sheets / links which allow you and your student(s) to explore this arena further at the end of each class – these will be emailed to reduce paper and to save them getting lost.
Classes will cover : Intro to Oceanography; Oceans – their chemistry, temperature, currents and so on; Ecological Zones of Earth’s Oceans; Beaches; Estuaries; Deltas; Coral Reefs; Waves, Tides and Tsunamis; Marine Food Chains; an in-depth look at specific aspects of Oceanography including specific creatures e.g. Sharks, crustaceans, jellies.
I will put together some field trips such as one to either Long Beach aquarium ($6/student) or Scripps Birch Aquarium; Buena Vista Audubon Visitor Center http://www.bvaudubon.org/
Students need a 1.5” Folder; some plain and lined paper; Subject Dividers; Scissors, glue stick, white glue, ruler, markers, crayons, colored pencils, pen, pencils, paper
It is intended this class is run over both semesters.
1st Semester Classes will finish on 5 December 2013
2nd Semester Classes will finish on 24 April 2014
Cost: $25 – Students may be asked to bring additional materials for specific projects
